How to be Single in Liverpool: Let’s hear it for the Girls

Our Girl on the shelf raises a glass to her female counterparts on International Women’s Day 2018.

I’ve kept a bit of a low profile while Valentine’s Day and all the cutesy, mushy stuff was over and done with, but oh how I underestimated the cruel mistress that is Fate, and she well and truly kicked my arse.

The girls and I had planned a big Galentine’s night out, you know, doing all that Sex and the City type, soul mates stuff and denouncing our need for meaningful relationships and whatnot, and eagerly snapped up tickets to the ‘Burn Your Ex, Anti-Valentine’s’ disco at Camp & Furnace. The premise being that singletons like us could take a pic of our ex and watch it burn on the open furnace, freeing ourselves from the ghosts of relationships past……which is sound….unless you walk in and your ex is actually there!

If you were at the ‘Burn Your Ex’ event and heard about that girl who’s ex fella was actually there awaiting his cameo in the furnace, then yeah that was me. Obviously me and the girls got busy throwing serious shapes on the dancefloor, shouting lyrics to all the best female anthems at each other (Whitney, Madge, Beyoncé et al), lots of pointing, power lunges and vogueing followed and I’m pretty sure the DJ played ‘Don’t Cha’ on loop because he felt my pain. Needless to say, it was a boss night and I’m more in love with my girls than ever before.

With that in mind, I’m using this month’s How to Be Single in Liverpool to highlight just how freaking amazing our scouse girls are. Genuine, kind-hearted, hilarious, loyal and never fail to hold your hair, baby wipe your mazzy and happily take 3 million selfies until the entire squad is happy with the official pic for Instagram. Where would we be without our girl gang?

As International Women’s Day 2018 highlights tackling gender pay and skills gaps, campaigns such as #MeToo and #TimesUp and shows how we can break down any barriers when we build each other up, I’m championing quality time with your girls in the best city in the world.

Not that we need an excuse for a glass of fizz with our besties, but here’s 5 top Girl Dates to check out with your girls in Liverpool…

1 – 2-4-8 Cocktails at George’s Great British Kitchen

From 2pm til 8pm every day, you and your bestie can enjoy 2 of the same delicious cocktails for £8 at George’s Great British Kitchen on Paradise Street. You can choose from old school sweetie classics such as Cherry Drop, FAB, Parma Violet and more. The small plates are dead tasty too and will help stave off the maccies craving at 8:05pm. 2 – Get Inked at The Painted Ladies

Ever had a tattoo and hid if from your mum and dad? We bet your best mate went with you and has kept your secret the whole time though!? Relive your youth and cement your friendship with a kick ass tattoo from Liverpool’s only all-female tattoo shop, The Painted Ladies on Hope Street. 3 – Girlie Spa Day Package at Titanic Hotel

Who doesn’t love a cheeky spa day? Especially during the week when you can drop the kids off and just chill and gossip for a few hours with your closest girls. 4 – Festival Fever with the crew

If you haven’t experienced a festival day or weekend with all your girls, your aunties and a load of cousins, are you even scouse? We’ve just announced the phenomenal LIMF 2018 line up featuring DJ Jazzy Jeff, Example, Wylie and loads more, plus there’s more than 20 other festivals coming to the Liverpool City Region in 2018 alone. Start stock piling the plastic cups, picnic blankets and get those Hunters out girls! Summer days in fields getting rotten are just around the corner. Check out the LIMF 2018 news here.

5 – Get Roasted at the Laughterhouse Comedy Club

Prove the strength of your friendship by getting absolutely owned by compere Chris Cairns and not being able to breathe for snorting laughing at your mates misfortune, now that’s what I call a mate date! The line up at the Laughterhouse Comedy Club, Fenwick Street just gets better and better as more famous faces and brand new up and coming talent takes to the stage in this intimate venue, where there’s no where to hide. Treat your mate to fits of giggles and memories of your cheeks burning with pure shame. Click here to see who’s on and get booking.

Next time I’ve got a proper dilemma for you. When setting the age and distance filters on your dating app, how young/old is respectable and realistic, and how far away just wont work? Do you run the risk of pulling a wool, or keep it local? All these questions answered and more.

What’s been your best night out memory with your girls in Liverpool? ! Drop me a line on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with your best memories and we’ll share the best on our socials.
