Four nurses from Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) were presented with gold and silver Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Awards by Dame Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for NHS England.

Fiona Murphy, Director of Nursing for Corporate Services at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was a recipient of the Gold Award, which recognises lifetime achievements in nursing, addressing health inequalities in communities.

Fiona, who has been a nurse for nearly 40 years, said:

“To have been recognised by Ruth for my contributions to nursing fills me with so much pride. It is an honour to be presented this award alongside colleagues who I have so much admiration for.

Jackie Ndebu, Advanced Clinical Practitioner for Medicine for Older People, Kamali Smith, Care Coordinator for Critical Care, and Clare Byrne, Associate Director of Nursing for Cancer, were all winners of the Silver Award, recognising exemplary performance, demonstrations of excellence in clinical practice and outstanding care.

David Melia, Chief Nursing Officer for Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“I can’t stress how proud I am of Fiona, Jackie, Kamali and Clare. LUHFT is lucky to have such dedicated, compassionate and highly skilled nurses caring for our patients. They are wonderful role models to their nursing colleagues and a huge credit to the profession.”

Dame Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for England, said:

“I was delighted to present Fiona, Clare, Kamali and Jackie with CNO awards recognising their outstanding work and commitment to patient care, the nursing profession and the NHS. They are an inspirational team and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to personally thank them.”
