Liverpool restaurants’ favourite healthy dishes for National Healthy Eating Week

It’s National Healthy Eating Week, so we spoke to some of Liverpool’s best restaurants about their favourite, healthy dishes.
Eating out doesn’t have to mean eating badly, so long as you make good choices.
But which dishes should you go for while eating out in Liverpool?
Here is our round-up of balanced and tasty dishes to get you feeling more enthusiastic about that salad.
La Famiglia Bar & Restaurant on Stanley street
This small, independent, family-run restaurant serves a mixture of Italian tradition with a new take on cooking.
With fresh, homemade pasta, and a friendly Italian atmosphere, you wouldn’t struggle to find something for everyone.
But which is their favourite dish for Healthy Eating Week?
Owner, Guiseppe, would recommend their ‘Pinsa Romana Mortadella & Provolone’.
He describes it as: “A healthier and more digestible version of the classic Neapolitan pizza. Pinsa is a sort of in-between of Pizza and Focaccia.”
Leaf on Bold Street
Leaf started out as a small tea shop run by friends, before finding its permanent home on Bold Street in 2010.
Now, Leaf is as known for its freshly made food, which uses locally sourced produce, as much as it is known for its tea.
When we asked what their favourite ‘healthy’ dish on the menu would be, they came back with their pan fried sea bass with crushed potatoes and sauteed greens.
The Watering Can in Greenbank Park
This Café Bistro is one of South Liverpool’s favourite hidden gems, blending beautifully into the natural surroundings of Greenbank Park.
They use fresh local produce where they can to create dishes that fit into their rustic, glass fronted venue.
One of their favourite dishes on the new menu is the ‘Spring Risotto’, which as well as being vegan, they say is bursting with flavours and seasonal goodness.
Gino D’Acampo on Castle Street
Gino D’Acampo’s restaurant has been part of Castle Street since July 2017 and has continued to be a success with locals.
The spring/summer menu, which Gino dedicated to his late father, hosts their healthy pick; the Chicken and Salame salad.
Gino said: “Every now and then I go on a health kick and watch what I eat, especially in the evenings.
“This salad is an amazing option for spring and summer: filling, delicious and incredibly good for you.”
Well on Dale Street
Well is a new, healthy food spot made by the teams behind Macro Balance meal prep, and the Lab Liverpool.
They make healthy, calorie counted meals, coffees, shakes, smoothies and juices which are all available on MyFitnessPal, to make it that much easier to keep track.
Since everything they make is on the healthy side, Lee, from Well Liverpool, chose one of their most popular meals; the Salt & Pepper steak (and we can see why).
Indigo Greens on Queens Drive
The plant based eatery, Indigo Greens, won best vegan restaurant as part of VegFestUK in 2019.
Arguably even better news, is that they chose their breakfast as their favourite, healthy dish.
However, unlike the usual ‘full English’, their ‘Green Grill Breakfast’ is packed with essential nutrients, vitamins and healthy fats.
They said their “clean green breakfast with maximum taste” is an Indigo Greens original and favourite.
National Healthy Eating Week is from June 14 – June 18, so there’s still time to treat yourself guilt-free.
