15 things you can do this week in Liverpool (July 20th – July 26th)

Now the World Cup’s all sorted, we can get back to what summer’s really all about – enjoying all this sunshine in our gorgeous city!

Liverpool’s Pride Opening Party with the Sugababes and Beth Ditto

Ahead of the Pride march on Saturday morning, the Arena gets Liverpool’s celebrations off to a partying start on Friday night. Sugababes and Beth Ditto will be headlining in the auditorium alongside a line-up including Bimini, Tia Kofi and Horse Meat Disco, drag icons and local performers. From 6pm.

Step on to history at St George’s Hall with the Minton Tiles

It’s three years since the historic Minton Tiles at St George’s Hall were last seen by thousands of visitors, now there’s a chance to be experience them again. The stunning intricate mosaic floor, made up of 30,000 tiles, is on display until September 2 and there’s a whole programme of events around them too.

Be wowed by Moulin Rouge the Musical 

This award-winning musical is a real rollercoaster of dazzling costumes and sets, a soundtrack of instantly recognisable hits and a poignant love story that’s had audiences on their feet every night since it opened at the Empire. It lives up to all the reviews and it’s in Liverpool until August so don’t miss it.

Meet the dinos at World Museum

Kids are always fascinated by dinosaurs (and adults too!), and from this week they’re taking over the World Museum on Wednesdays and Thursdays through summer. Life-like dino puppets will be on the loose as well as cute baby dinos, craft workshops, storytelling and other activities, and it’s mostly free.

Tuck into an authentic Churrasco Experience at Fogo de Chao in Exchange Flags

Exchange Flags is one of the best places to be when the sun’s out, and if you’re a steak fan you can get an added treat by heading to Fogo de Chao. They’re served rodizio-style, so you get a proper Brazilian experience with your favourite cut carved at your table, and you can enjoy cocktails on the terrace too.

Beach Fest launches at Liverpool ONE

Summer’s officially landed at Liverpool ONE and that means the start of plenty of family fun all through the holidays. As part of a full programme, the seaside’s come to town because Chavasse Park has been turned into a sandy beach with family friendly rides, entertainment and activities, until August 31.

Delicious new menu at Hafla Hafla on Lark Lane

All the small plates on Hafla’s menu are a delicious, you can’t honestly go wrong, and now alongside all-time favourites like halloumi fries and house falafel you’ll find some tasty new dishes for summer including gorgeous Middle Eastern-inspired salads and a must-try chocolate sorbet with sea salt.

Take the Mermaid Trail in New Brighton

If you want to do something different with the kids, check out the free Mermaid Trail at New Brighton. Created by sculptor Barry Canning-Eaton, and decorated by local schoolchildren, spot the mermaids at Kings Parade, Atherton Street/Victoria Road, Seabank Road, Marine Promenade and Victoria Parade.

Liverpool Arab Arts Festival continues

Liverpool Arab Arts Festival is one of the biggest events of its kind in the UK and it has a great programme of events this year including live music, film screenings and in conversations. The festival runs until Sunday when it has its finale at the Palm House with a free LAAF Family Day, 12pm–5pm.

This opening has been so looked forward to, especially in south Liverpool, and now the latest Hickory’s Smokehouse is finally in Gateacre Village.  It’s known for its authentic Deep South BBQ flavours so you’ll find specialities like Texas-style slow-smoked brisket, bourbon baby back ribs and super-stacked burgers.
