Rare Merseyside legends’ interviews heard for the first time in half a century

A brand new podcast series featuring incredibly rare interviews with world famous football legends from Liverpool and Everton is now live.

Merseyside Legends’ is a must-listen journey into the world famous footballing dynasty of both Liverpool and Everton, featuring interviews from those who shaped Merseyside football with some showbiz material added to the mix.

The podcast is the brainchild of respected football journalist and broadcaster John Keith, who has spent more than 60 years in the press boxes of Anfield and Goodison Park, in that time building countless close friendships with greats from both sides of Stanley Park.

“The idea for Merseyside Legends came out of a conundrum!” said John, from Southport. “Over the years I’ve amassed a huge collection of cassette tape and CD recordings from hundreds of interviews with former managers and players, as well as quite a few from the world of show business. 

“Some of the material has been included in stage shows that I have written and presented in five different countries!

“Alas as technology advanced I needed to find a way to protect the historic heritage of these archive recordings. A good friend of mine recommended we digitise them and make these clips available for the millions of Liverpool and Everton fans around the world!

“So the podcast was born and our debut episode is an absolute treat for football enthusiasts and sports historians as we showcase the legendary manager Bill Shankly, in his own words. 

“Listening to him even I feel quite emotional as he provides an intimate and personal glimpse into his remarkable journey.

“This exclusive audio material gives fans a unique perspective on the pivotal role Shankly played in shaping the ethos of Liverpool FC..

“Merseyside Legends is not just a podcast; it’s a time capsule that unearths rare audio recordings from some of the most iconic figures in the history of Merseyside football. Each episode is a heartfelt tribute to the moments that have defined the two celebrated football clubs.”
