San Carlo Liverpool to undergo £3.5m makeover

San Carlo, an icon of the Liverpool dining scene since 2009 is set to undergo a dramatic £3.5million makeover. Announced today by the multi-award-winning San Carlo restaurant group, the venue on Castle Street will close its doors on the 2 January for approximately 12 weeks during which the stunning transformation of the site will take place.

The new aesthetic will see a dramatic shift from the bold black and red interiors to more modern surroundings that ooze opulence and sophistication, taking aesthetic inspiration from beautiful settings of Italy.

The project will involve stripping out the entire interior of San Carlo, altering the layout, adding a brand new private dining room and completely changing the look and feel of the space. The elegant interiors will take inspiration from grand Milanese villas and gardens with a colour palette that draws inspiration from the coastline of Northern Italy. Bespoke frescos artwork by LA based artist Jessalyn Brooks will adorn the walls, whilst the light and fresh interior includes details and finishes reminiscent of classic Italian mid-century furniture.

Commenting on the project, Managing Director Marcello Distefano said:

“Our Liverpool venue has held a special place within our group and the city has been so good to us over the years; we’ve built up an incredibly local customer base of city dwellers, tourists, famous faces and sport stars. We are very excited that Liverpool will be the first of our new look San Carlo Restaurants; our much-loved venue will undergo a complete facelift, transforming the aesthetic into the most breathtakingly beautiful modern setting. We look forward to inviting in diners old and new to experience a new phase for us which will boast the same sophistication and charm as ever before combined with a stunning new look.’

San Carlo

The iconic venue first opened in 2009, making it one of the most popular dining destinations in the city for the past 13 years. The closure will take place after San Carlo’s spectacular New Year’s Eve closing event featuring live acts who will be turning up the tempo and partying through to the early hours of 2023.

San Carlo will reopen in Spring 2023 and will continue to serve a menu that offers an opulent and contemporary take on traditional Italian dining.
