Socktober is back to support homeless charity, Whitechapel Centre

You may have heard of The Whitechapel Centre’s Socktober campaign in the past, but this year, the homeless charity want to encourage even more schools and businesses across region to get involved by wearing their craziest socks.

The Whitechapel Centre gives out over 7,000 pairs of socks every year to those in need but they are not often donated. Socktober aims to ensure the charity has plenty of socks for the winter ahead.

The annual Socktober campaign encourages pupils and staff in schools, businesses and individuals to wear their funkiest and craziest socks any day in October and make a donation to the charity.

Getting involved in the campaign is easy, you can set a day for everybody to wear funky socks and donate £1 and/or host a sock donation day where everyone brings in a new pair of socks! There is no entry fee, but the charity asks you to register so they know you are taking part and to raise what you can for The Whitechapel Centre.

Once registered, The Whitechapel Centre will provide you with resources and a video which explains a little bit more about Socktober, what it is all about, who it helps and The Whitechapel Centre itself. The charity has created everything you need to host a Socktober event which can be downloaded here.

If funky socks aren’t your thing you can still be a part of the campaign by fundraising in any sock related way you’d like.

Toni-Marie, fundraiser at The Whitechapel Centre, said: “We hope lots of schools and businesses are able to get involved with our Socktober campaign. It’s a really easy and fun thing to do. We as a charity took a big hit during the pandemic, like most charities did across the country. We now hope that people can get back to supporting us in tackling homelessness across the region and one of the best ways to support us as a charity is to fundraise for us”

And before we forget, we’d love to see all your photos of those fabulous and funky socks and huge thank you to anyone getting involved!
