The Best Places to Spend an Autumn Day Across Merseyside

The Best Places to Spend an Autumn Day Across Merseyside

The seasons have officially changed and although we’re  all missing the BBQs, the sangria & the sunshine, we are so excited for all of the autumnal fun that’s to be had….conkers, pumpkin picking and hot chocolates galore!

Here’s a list of the best places to welcome in the new season around Merseyside:

Calderstones Park

EVERYONE knows this is the best spot in Liverpool for a walk amongst the fallen golden leaves and better still, it’s the perfect place to pick up the shiniest, biggest conkers in Liverpool….anyone fancy a game? Check out the Absolutely Fabulous Gin Festival taking place later this month, details here.

Pumpkin picking at Claremont Farm

Pumpkins - Halloween Autumn

We all love carving a pumpkin when Halloween comes around but why settle from one from the Asda when you can actually pick your very own pumpkin from the ground? Claremont Farm is always popular so get down there as soon as they are ripe & ready! Check out the best picking times here.

Freshfield, Formby

We’ve all been down on Formby beach over the long summer months but for a twist of Autumn fun the National Trust Pinewoods & Squirrel Reserve have some gorgeous walking routes through the enchanting woods. Hop on the train and get off at Freshfield station and see how many rare red squirrels you can spot!

Sefton Park

Did you know this gorgeous city gem is likened in size, design and beauty to Central Park in NYC? Whilst we would all love a trip over to NYC during the autumn months our very own Sefton Park is a great place to pretend. Grab a round of lattes with your friends from Milo Lounge on Lark Lane and imagine you’re the cast of FRIENDS or SATC as you gossip around the lake. Could this be anymore autumnal?

Anthony Gormleys ‘Another Place’ on Crosby beach

Crosby Beach - Iron Man

Wrap up super warm and cosy then head to see the eerie statues dotted along the beach. Crosby beach is easily accessed via train at Waterloo & Hall Road stations or if you drive, at Burbo Bank car park (where there’s a boss food truck that sells delicious hot chips to warm you up again!) The views are gorgeous and definitely worth risking frostbite for. Don’t forget your selfies!

The Black Pearl, New Brighton

Another one for the fresh air lovers! Pile the kids, wellies and gloves into the car and head on over to New Brighton beach (the train station is also easy walking distance). Let your little pirates have a climb about on The Black Pearl before heading around to Marine Point for a hearty lunch or a coffee. It’s also the perfect place to take in some breath taking views of out magnificent city!

Hale Village & Pickering Pasture

Autumn is the best time to take a leisurely wander around the historic village of Hale. Prepare to be transported back in time as you take in this beautiful little chocolate box of a destination, that’s just a fifteen minute drive out of the city. With numerous walks out to the lighthouse and the Child of Hale cottage, you can finish up in a cosy little tea shop for a cuppa and a (big) slice of homemade cake.
If you prefer something a bit faster paced, get on your bike and check out the blue skies and winter sun views across the Mersey estuary at Pickering Pasture. A great little spot on the waterfront that’s safe for the kids to scoot around on too.

So there are a few of our favourite Autumn places, tag us @TheGuideLpool with your suggestions and selfies….Pumpkin Spice Latte, anyone?!
