LIMF takes place at Sefton Park on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July 2019. The line-up includes a knock out bill of international and up and coming talent across 4 stages. Disco Classical with special guest Sister Sledge featuring Kathy Sledge will headline Sunday night with an amazing 30 piece orchestra and all the classic tracks we all know and love.
We caught up with Kathy and the band at The Yard Manchester for final rehearsals ahead of their LIMF 2019 performance. Watch above as we talk LIMF and recording one of the most iconic disco tracks of all time, when she was just a teen.
Kathy said: “I am so excited. I’m thrilled to be at LIMF, especially singing some of these classic songs the way we know and love them. Songs like ‘Thinking of You’, ‘We Are Family’, ‘ The Greatest Dancer’, I don’t want to give you the whole show yet! We’re all hyped.”
Asked if she could only sing one track at LIMF, what would it be, Kathy replied: “I love singing Thinking of You, I love Family, who doesn’t? But Thinking Of You is so special to me because sometimes I just let everybody sing it with me and its so embraced.
“I love seeing the different generations and they all know the words and I’m looking out thinking, well you weren’t even born when this came out but they know it. That’s like the hugest compliment.”
For Kathy, hearing these iconic 70’s tracks get yet another lease of life with a live orchestra is a real treat, she said: “It’s exhilarating. Trust me, even though I’m up there singing and performing, I can feel every violin! We’re in for such a treat, it takes it to another level.”
MORE: Here’s why we can’t wait to see Nile Rodgers at LIMF 2019
Fellow LIMF 2019 artist, Nile Rodgers worked with Sister Sledge and co-wrote and produced We Are Family with Kathy when she was just a teen. She recalls being apprehensive about its 1979 release, she said:” I used to drive Nile crazy. We have this on-going joke. I was like this teenager with braces and I used to follow him around the studio and ask do you think We Are Family will be a hit?”
If only teenage Kathy could’ve known she’d still be performing that very track as well as producing and writing 4 decades later! Incredible stuff and we’re truly honoured to have Disco Classical, Sister Sledge and Kathy Sledge at LIMF.
Without giving away too much about the LIMF 2019 set list, you’re definitely going to need your dancing shoes. ‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’, ‘Got To Be Real’ and of course ‘We Are Family’ will ring out across the park an bring generations together for a massive sing along.
LIMF 2019 is one of the best line-ups we’ve ever had. In fact, it’s the best. Sunday brings Hip Hop legends, De La Soul, Nao, SG Lewis, Samm Henshaw, Grace Carter, Apre, Luna and Kyami join Radio 1Xtra DJ Nick Bright on Centre Stage with our very own Jay Hynd as your host.
Original Dodger, Kenny Dope and Little Boots head up the True School Club House. Manny Norte and Sian Anderson hit the decks at The Shubz DJ Tent. Flying the flag for Liverpool talent the Music City Stage to see the likes of PizzaGirl, Sub Blu x Deliah and loads more.
