A Bank Holiday week means, if you’re lucky, it feels like the weekend’s almost here again already.

Whether or not you’re getting a four-dayer, there are some great things happening around the city right now so here are 15 ideas for what to do in Liverpool this week …

After what feels like ages since dates were announced, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s multi-award-winning musical phenomenon Hamilton finally arrives at the Liverpool Empire for a five-week run until Saturday June 7. The cast, staging and most of all the songs are incredible so audiences are in for a real treat.

It’s already attracting crowds to Crosby Beach for street food and drinks from its double decker, now Bus Yard has returned to Chavasse Park for the summer. Grab a spot on the grass, in a deckchair or beanbag and make the most of sunny days with frozen cocktails, summer spritzes and live music.

VE Day Market at Stanley Market on Wednesday

VE Day events commemorating the 80th anniversary are happening across the city region all week and that includes a special VE Day theme at Stanley Market on Wednesday between 9am and 3pm. It’s free entry and you can enjoy a fantastic day out with live performances, stalls and activities for all ages.

When the sun’s shining Crosby Marine Lake has some absolutely gorgeous views, especially at sunset. It’s a lovely place for a walk, or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous head to Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre for all kinds of watersports including sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and jetskiing. 


Steak night at Macello’s in West Derby

Anyone who loves steak needs to get to Macello Meathouse because it serves some of the finest in the city. This is a true Turkish steakhouse so you get to choose your cut, including sirloin, fillet mignon and prime tomahawk and T-bone – with even more beef, lamb and even octopus steaks on the mains.

This new play, based in an L8 Caribbean takeaway, is full of themes which audiences relate to, from changing communities to family love, loss and divided loyalties. It’s got a talented cast and lots of laugh-out-loud lines, and on Thurs, Fri and Sat there’s the bonus of Ragga’s food in the Everyman’s street café.

And Helios continues to wow at Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool Cathedral really is the most spectacular backdrop for art installations and this latest one from Luke Jerram is absolutely dazzling. Seven metres in diameter, the suspended artwork gives a detailed, up-close view of the sun alongside a specially commissioned surround sound composition. Until Friday.

Rosa’s at the Albert Dock is perfect for fans or newcomers to Thai because its menu is full of authentic flavour-packed dishes that cover the whole spicy scale – some are hot and punchy and others are super-mild like the Gaeng Massaman curry.
