If you’ve been out of the house lately it’s impossible to miss that we’re coming up to Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s, or Palentine’s, whichever you fancy) on Friday.

There’s plenty going on around Liverpool if you’re feeling the love but even if you’re not, don’t stay at home because we’ve got lots of suggestions for you!

Prepare to be wowed by all things fiery when the spectacular Fiesta of Fire returns to the Albert Dock this Saturday. On until February 22, it’s got something to entertain the whole family with dazzling free fire shows and a try-if-you-dare fire walk, in front of the Martin Luther King Jr building.

Jurassic Takeover Day at M&S Bank Arena

Dinosaur fans can have the best day ever on Saturday because there’s a mega Jurassic Takeover at the Arena. There’ll be encounters where you can get up close to life-like dinos, a palaeontology area to check out dinosaur bones, live performances, dress-up, story time for little ones and more.

It wasn’t a great FA Cup weekend for Reds or Blues, but now it’s the big one – the rearranged derby on Wednesday night, under the lights at Goodison for the last time. If you don’t have tickets you can still get the atmosphere because PINS, Dicey O’Reilly’s and Punch Tarmey’s are showing it on big screens.

Anyone who tuned in to late night Radio City back in the day will remember the Peaceful Hour, full of slowies and real-life stories. Now the show has been brought back by playwright Gerry Linford in a new production at the Royal Court that mixes Scouse humour, love and cheesy tunes. From Friday.

Tuck into the Pen Factory on Hope Street

Hope Street has to be one of the most beautiful places in Liverpool so if you’re up there and fancy gorgeous food try Pen Factory because its take on the classics is spot-on. Beer battered fish and chips, Guinness braised short rib, scouse, or Lancs cheese and onion pie are comfort food heaven.

For authentic Italian dishes, served with love in a family-run restaurant, Casa Roni in south Liverpool is definitely worth a visit. Everything from buffalo mozzarella to ice cream is sourced from Italy and you can really taste the quality in its signature pasta, pizza, meat and fish dishes.

Love Folk Festival at the Atkinson, Southport

It’s all about folk at The Atkinson this weekend when it hosts a celebration of traditional and alternative folk music. Alex Hart and Blue Rose Code headline a great line-up on Friday and Saturday plus there’ll be a Busk Love Folk acoustic stage and drinks including guest ales from Southport Brewery.
