While Lime Street gets a facelift here’s 7 reasons why we love Liverpool South Park Way

Train travel to and from the city takes a bit of a re-route until late October so here’s you chance to explore South Liverpool.

Have you ever actually gotten off the train at Liverpool South Parkway Station? Oh you haven’t lived! Right in the heart of South Liverpool there’s so much to see and do and Autumn is the best time to check out the parks, pubs and shopping opportunities of the leafy suburbs.

As mainline train journeys begin and end at Liverpool South Parkway for the next couple of weeks, commuter journeys are set to be 10 to 15 minutes longer as local Merseyrail trains and replacement bus services, transport you into the city. To be fair, Liverpool Lime Street Station has been in need of a revamp for a while, and despite the disruption, these essential works will mean better rail travel for us all over the winter period and beyond. There’s more from Network Rail on the planned works here.

Cheer up buttercup! Jump off  that train for a bit of an adventure in South Liverpool. Here’s 7 reasons why we love Liverpool South Parkway Station…….

1 – Get Connected

Liverpool South Parkway Station also boasts a big bus terminal and so jumping off the train and straight onto a regular bus service to explore South Liverpool is really easy. With Walrus cards, day saver tickets, discounts and deals available, you can be on your way to a winter walk, shopping spree or quiet pint in minutes. More info from Better By Bus here.

2 – The Great Outdoors

Stick your wellies on and go explore the tonnes of South Liverpool green spaces this Autumn. From Allerton Towers to Calderstones Park and even the wild Speke and Garston Coastal Reserve. There’s miles of footpaths to wander and plenty of free fresh air fun.

3 – Gateway to the World

Liverpool Airport

Sounds like a bit of bold claim that, but Liverpool South Parkway is the closest station to Liverpool John Lennon Airport so in all fairness, it really is a gateway to the world. With a dedicated bus transfer between the two with ample space for luggage, you can travel to the airport in comfort. Check out our top pick of the best winter escapes direct from our local airport here.

4 – Shop til you Drop

South Liverpool is bursting with shops from the big name, high street brands to individual, quirky independents. From the New Mersey Retail Park in Speke to the boutiques of Aigburth Road and Lark Lane, there’s bound to be something that’ll catch your eye.
