10 of the best Mereyside ice-cream parlours to check out this summer

It looks like summer is here to stay, so check out these Liverpool ice cream stops for a bit of brain-freeze fun.

Whether you’re out shopping, taking a wander on your lunch at work or looking for a tasty, ice-cold treat for the kids after school, a big old scoop of ice-cream will always do the trick. Liverpool has enjoyed a huge boost to its dessert restaurants in the last 12 months so we’re fully prepared for the summer heatwave. From the beach to the city streets we’re got a cool, calorific scoop for you.

Here’s 10 places to get yourself an ice-cream this summer in Liverpool…..

1 – Icestone Gelato, Queen Square

Icestone Gelato (above Five Guys on Queen Square) serves up more than 20 different flavours of fresh gelato everyday. Eat in or take away, it’s just a stones throw from the bus stops on the way for your train at Lime Street! Website here.

2 – Nicholls of Parkgate, Wirral

Is Nicolls of Parkgate the most famous ice-cream parlour on Merseyside? The queues around the block at every glimmer of sunshine would suggest so! Having served up the best ice-cream on the Wirral for more than 75 years, there’s no denying we love a double scoop of homemade bubblegum and mint choc chip in Neston! More info here.

3 – Heavenly Desserts, Liverpool ONE

If you’re shopping in town, make time to stop off at Heavenly Desserts at Liverpool ONE and rest your legs with an indulgent treat. Ice-cream also comes with a big old side order of freshly made cakes, waffles, brownies and more at this dessert emporium, perfectly situated right in the heart of the city. Menus and more here.

4 – The Reader Cafe, Calderstones Park

Long, lazy days at the park go hand in hand with sunny days and one of our favourite ice-cream parlours has to be at The Reader at Calderstones Park. Head to the courtyard, grab a picnic table with your mates and go all in with mixing and matching your favourite flavours. Burn it off with a game of hide ‘n’ seek after, you’re never too old! More info on The Reader at Calderstones here.

5 – Caffe Cream, Marine Point, New Brighton

New Brighton’s most famous ice-cream seller hit the headlines last year bu serving up cones of chips with a dollop of the icy stuff on the top. Seriously, who actually enjoyed this? Tweet us @TheGuideLpool. Whether you prefer yours with a spoon or salt n vinegar, you can’t go to New Brighton for the day and not nip into Caffe Cream! Menus and more here.

6 – Kaspas, Victoria Street

There is always a queue to get an ice-cream fix as Kaspas, and with Instagram-worthy ice-cream sundaes like this one, we can understand why. Make like it’s the 90’s and join the cool kids in a booth to tuck into bubble slush, crepes, waffles, pies and lashings of ice-cream after school. Menus and more here.

7 – The Midnight Delivery, Baltic Market

The Midnight Delivery has been serving up some seriously impressive e numbers in the form of this croissant gelato sandwich down at the Baltic Market and we’re desperate to get our hands on one. Who says sprinkles and strawberry sauce are just for the kids!? Check out what sweet treats are on offer at Baltic Market this summer, here.

8 – Grand Central Food Bazaar, Renshaw Street

Feast your eyes on Jaffa Cake ice-cream now available at the brand new dining destination, Grand Central Food Bazaar on Renshaw Street. With 12 independent food retailers under one, seriously impressive roof, this is the place to go when you want to eat ice-cream with a hot date! More info here.

9 – Treaty Pie, Home Delivery

We’re definitely not complaining, but it’s been too hot to even move at times over the last couple of weeks, so if you could have your favourite dessert delivered to your door, you definitely would, wouldn’t you? Treaty Pie not only freshly prepare but also home deliver your ice-cream, half baked cookie dough, waffles, cake jars and more, and we couldn’t be happier! Menus and more here.

10 – Ben & Jerry’s, ODEON Liverpool ONE

If all else fails, you can rely on Ben & Jerry to turn around a sweltering day with a cone loaded with chunky monkey, cherry Garcia or cookie dough at ODEON at Liverpool ONE. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got tickets for the latest blockbuster, get yourself a little tub of happy on your way home anyway! Opening times here.
