10 reasons to smile this weekend in Liverpool (20-22 November 2020)

We’re officially over halfway now with this second lockdown, which is definitely a reason to smile for everyone – but in case that’s not quite enough, here’s another 10 for you this weekend …

It’s another Good News Weekend on The Guide Liverpool and there are still lots of positive vibes flowing across the city so keep it with us and we will share the best.

Don’t forget you can choose from hundreds of delivery ideas, online stores, takeaway bistros and more in our Liverpool Directory here. And email us to feature your business directory@theguideliverpool.com

There’s a live stream from local band By The Sea from Future Yard

Going to see gigs is one of the things we’ve been missing most over the past few months, but there’s still some great live music to be had. Tonight (Fri) you can catch Wirral band By the Sea playing in Birkenhead. Their gig was recorded live before lockdown and will be streamed from Future Yard to watch wherever you are from 7.30pm. It’s free to access here.

The Red Bus at Albert Dock is serving up winter warmers

Even when the shops and restaurants aren’t open, the Albert Dock is one of the most gorgeous places in the city – or anywhere – to visit and there’s always plenty to see. While you’re taking a walk down by the waterfront, maybe visiting some of the outdoor artworks, you can warm up thanks to another Dock landmark, the Red Bus, which is still there to serve up hot food and takeaway drinks.

Hit the beach and head to Formby Point

Scousers are a hardy lot, so since when have we let a little drop in temperature put us off going to the beach? Actually the beach and the dunes at Formby can look even more beautiful when they’re a bit windswept, and there’s not as many crowds, so wrap up and head there to blow away the working-from-home cobwebs with a fabulous winter walk.

More walking ideas and routes here.

Start your day with takeaway coffee and breakfast from Bold St Coffee

Bold Street Coffee has been one of Liverpool’s lockdown lifelines, keeping us fed with amazing takeaway breakfasts, lunches and their award-winning coffee. They’re open every day from 10-4 for everything from hash browns and avo on toast to their famous egg buoys, so if you’re looking to show some love to our food indies get them on your list.

Good deeds keep on coming

Liverpool has played a blinder helping each other out over lockdown, and the good deeds are still going strong. The Eccleston Arms was fantastic in the first one, getting essentials out to the most vulnerable, and now it’s doing it again with its No-One Goes Hungry campaign. Today it’s delivering 120 meals to people who really need them. Laura’s Little Bakery is still doing its Donate a Cake, supplying a free birthday cakes to children whose parents are struggling, and LIDS is launching a Secret Santa.

You can get takeaway pub food and roast dinners from the Horse & Jockey in Melling

No need to miss out on pub food, and especially getting a decent roast you haven’t had to cook, because the Horse & Jockey in Melling’s doing takeaway. There’s a Sunday carvery, which has been named in Liverpool’s top 3, plus favourites like their salt & pepper buttermilk chicken burger. And you can even get pornstar martinis to go with it! Sunday lunch is available to order from 11am, pick-ups from 12.30pm. Place your oder here.

Get Christmas boxed with our food and drink hampers guide and check out a few new ones!

Buying for someone who really loves good food and drink (isn’t that everyone?) is really easy this Christmas because loads of Liverpool indies are doing their own hampers and gift packs for delivery. Our guide here features some of the best, and while you’re at it check out the new Six By Nico six-course festive tasting menu Christmas experience, Miracle On, Casa Italia’s luxury and mini hampers and the Liverpool Cheese Co pick n mix.  It’s a pot-luck selection of 5-6 types of cheese so if you love cheese and surprises this is for you!

Delivery drinks from Crust (try the pizza too!)

Everyone knows Crust does some of the very best pizzas in Liverpool – if you haven’t tried the black dough, you really need to – but as well as getting them delivered, you can have drinks driven to your door too with a full wine and beer menu too. Place your order here. May as well get the full job done.

Click and Collect some vinyl from 81 Renshaw Street

Liverpool’s looking lit up and lovely at the moment, so get yourself in the Christmas mood by taking a stroll along Hope Street to see the new festive lights which have gone up there, and then head on to St James’ Gardens for a wander. All this walking will get us fit for 2021!
