Jurassic Takeover Day at the Exhibition Centre – February 10

Jurassic Take-Over Day - M&S Bank Arena

Dinosaurs will be roaming the Exhibition Centre as it hosts the UK’s only interactive walkthrough theatre experience. State-of-the-art animatronic dinosaurs mean you can talk to a Triceratops and roar with a T-Rex, there’s a Jurassic Park tribute area and a chance to learn all about baby dinosaurs and skeletons.

Anyone who’s ever had kids will know and love this book, it’s a classic, and the stage adaptation doesn’t disappoint. Little theatregoers can join Sophie and her mum as they sit down to tea, only to be joined by a very unexpected guest, in a fun show direct from the West End that’s packed with sing-a-long songs.

Shrek the Musical at the Empire – February 12-17

And that’s just for starters because Shrek the Musical has a cast of fabulous characters, it’s funny and there’s great music so it’s got everything you’d want in a family show, plus (spoiler alert) a guaranteed happy ending!

Disney on Ice Dream Big at the Arena – March 21-24

Disney fans are in for treat with this show featuring a cast of favourites in a magical tale of adventure told through world-class figure skating. Audiences will get to travel to the land of Arendelle with Anna, Elsa and Olaf and see characters including Mickey and Minnie, Miguel, Moana, Elsa, Belle and Genie.

Another one straight from TV and onto stage in Liverpool – CBBC’s Andy and the Odd Socks have got a CV any band would be made up with, not only have they played Glastonbury, but Queen’s Brian May is an honorary member! The live show features back-to-back songs from the Andy and the Band TV series.

There’s a Monster in Your Show at the Playhouse – May 28-June 1

Family events

McFly frontman and best-selling author Tom Fletcher’s Who’s In Your Book series has been a huge hit and now it’s debuting a stage version. Little Monster is the cute show-stealing star along with his friends Dragon, Alien and Unicorn in a production that’s full of original music and perfect for younger kids.

Africa Oyé in Sefton Park – date TBC, usually mid-June

Africa Oyé is one of Liverpool’s best-loved festivals and it’s a fantastic day out for the whole family. As well as music stages, there’s a funfair, Oyé Active Zone where everyone can learn African dance styles, and the Oyé Village with storytelling, facepainting, and free music, dance, art and craft workshops.


Wicked at the Empire – June 20-July 14

This phenomenal Wizard of Oz spin-off has become one of the biggest shows on Broadway and the West End, racking up masses of awards, and it fills out theatres when it tours. If you’ve never seen it, you’re in for the best time because the performances and music are amazing, you’ll be singing all the way home.


Bluey’s Big Play at the Arena – July 12-14

Perfect for little lovers of the Aussie-made Emmy-winning animated TV show which follows the friends, family and fun times of blue heeler puppy Bluey, this is a brand new stage adaptation. Its UK premiere brings the Heeler family to real life through brilliant puppets and a new story created for the theatre.

Halloween Family Day at Aintree Racecourse – October 27

If you love a day out at the races then here’s a chance to make it something that the whole family can do together. Aintree’s hosting its Halloween Family Day with racing all day, plus lots of spooky entertainment especially for kids including facepainting, dress-up, characters and even a ghost train.

Southport Air Show at Southport seafront – July 13-14

Southport Air Show

Another huge family festival that pulls in the crowds every year – Southport Air Show is a weekend full of entertainment and not just in the sky. As well as spectacular air displays there’s plenty happening on the ground too including flight simulators, static aircraft to explore, climbing walls and assault courses.

Wirral Family Festival at Prenton Park – May 11

Tranmere’s ground will be the venue for an all-dayer Wirral Family Festival this May with a live music stage featuring tribute artists, a dance music arena with DJs and kids’ stage with superhero and princess shows, magic and dance shows, dinosaurs, plus pony rides, inflatables, zorbing, a funfair and lots more.
