Liverpool Samaritans listeners spread the word about life-changing impact of talking
1 year ago
The charity’s annual Talk To Us campaign is highlighting the life-changing power of talking, culminating with the Samaritans Awareness Day on Monday 24 July – reflecting the fact listeners are available 24/7.
Liverpool Samaritans volunteers will be out and about in the city on Monday, 24 July, to raise awareness of its emotional support services and encourage anyone struggling to reach out for help.
A number of volunteers will be at Liverpool South Parkway station from midday until 4pm and at the city centre Barclays Bank branch on Lord Street from 9.30am until 12.30pm.
As well as reaching out to the public, listeners will also be manning the phones at the local Samaritans branch on Clarence Street throughout the day.
Samaritans Liverpool and Merseyside director Helen Gilbert said:
“It’s been a very challenging few years and we know that many people are still facing all kinds of pressures. However, we want to remind everyone you are not alone.Â
“Whatever you’re going through, it doesn’t matter how big or small the problems feel, our volunteers are here at any time of day or night, whatever you’re facing.”
Throughout the year, Samaritans is celebrating being here to listen for 70 years, during which time volunteers have answered more than 134 million calls for help.
The charity has worked in partnership with Network Rail and the wider rail industry for over 10 years, providing support and vital suicide prevention training to help staff identify vulnerable people and save lives. To date, more than 25,000 rail and British Transport Police staff have been trained.
Anyone can contact Samaritans for free any time from any phone on 116 123 or go to their website.
