easyJet celebrates first flight from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to Malta

easyJet has today celebrated the first flight from Liverpool John Lennon Airport to the Mediterranean island of Malta.

The new weekly service took off today and will operate on Tuesdays throughout the winter, providing customers with even more choice for winter sun holidaymakers.

Famed for its beautiful coastlines, crystal clear waters and more than 3.000 hours of sunshine a year, sitting in the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta is steeped in history. From its honey-coloured towns, to its rugged coast and historic capital Valetta, it offers plenty for visitors to explore, for a cultural getaway, a relaxing beach break or a scuba diving adventure.

Since easyJet started flying to Malta in March 2008, the airline has flown over four million customers and is now attracting more than 400,000 holidaymakers a year to enjoy Malta’s unique culture.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said:

“We are very happy to celebrate the launch of our new route to Malta from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, and to provide even more choice for customers this winter. Malta is perfectly placed in the Med to offer customers amazing winter breaks and discover its famous history, great beaches and wonderful nightlife at their own pace.

“This new and exciting route provides our customers from across the region with even greater choice and connectivity this year all with great value fares and friendly service, and we look forward to welcoming them on board.”

Robin Tudor, Head of PR & Communications at Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented:

“It’s great to see this latest addition to the flying programme from Liverpool, now giving passengers from across the North West and North Wales the opportunity to fly with easyJet to Malta from Liverpool, the region’s faster, easier, friendlier airport of choice.

Malta has so much to offer leisure travellers from its history and culture to its beaches and festivals and this new route is bound to be popular with passengers taking advantage of now being able to fly there with easyJet from Liverpool.”

easyJet launched services from Liverpool for the first time in October 1997, with the opening of its base with flights to Nice, Amsterdam and Geneva, where it will now base eight Airbus A320 family aircraft.

easyJet has remained committed to Liverpool by maintaining a continuous operation and has grown to operate up to nearly 328 flights a week, offering 27 routes to 17 countries across Europe and North Africa and has flown over 53 million customers since operations began.

Today, easyJet connects Liverpool to major cities across Europe like Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Barcelona; to a range of fantastic beach destinations like Faro, Hurghada, Paphos, Corfu, Bodrum and Corfu; to popular ski resorts via Salzburg and Geneva and across the UK, with services to Belfast, City of Derry, the Isle of Man and Jersey, offering choice and great value fares for both leisure and business travellers.
