Susan Black to step down as Liverpool FC’s Director of Communications
3 hours ago

Liverpool FC has announced that Susan Black, the club’s Director of Communications, will be stepping down at the end of the season after an incredible 14-year tenure in senior roles across the club.
Susan has played a pivotal role in shaping Liverpool FC’s communications, engagement, and employee relations, working closely with internal, external, and industry stakeholders. In addition to her leadership in communications, she has also served as a Board Member and Executive Director for Liverpool FC Women, as well as a Board Member of the Liverpool FC Foundation, making a lasting impact on multiple areas of the club.
Among her many achievements, Susan was instrumental in launching the club’s first-ever LFC Foundation Legends charity match in 2014 to mark the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough. Following this success, she was invited to join the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, where she has helped oversee eight Legends matches that have collectively raised over £8.5 million—all of which has been invested into community programmes supporting young people and families in need.
Her leadership extended beyond communications, as she was also a driving force behind the development of Liverpool FC Women. Invited by FSG President Mike Gordon in 2020 to join the newly formed Board of Directors, Susan played a crucial role in strategic decision-making that led to the team’s promotion back to the WSL, increased investment in LFC Women and the Girls’ Pro Game Academy, and enhanced club support for the women’s game. She also oversaw the reacquisition of AXA Melwood as the training ground for LFC Women and played a key role in appointing the club’s first-ever female Ambassador.
Billy Hogan, LFC’s CEO, said:
“On behalf of the entire club, I would like to express my gratitude for Susan’s years of dedication and leadership across our Communications, LFC Women, and LFC Foundation functions.
“She has played a pivotal role in all three areas alongside her role as one of the long-standing members of our Executive team, and we thank her for her expertise and commitment. She has played an instrumental role in shaping our success and will be missed. We wish her well for the future and she will always be welcome at Anfield.”
Susan Black said:
“It really has been a great privilege to work for this incredible football club over the last 14 years. We are blessed at LFC to have so many incredibly talented, gifted and professional individuals who work together to ensure our club goes from strength to strength. I am moving on but in the knowledge that the building blocks that are in place are strong and fit for the future.”
As Susan prepares to step down, Craig Evans, currently LFC’s VP of Communications, will be promoted to SVP of Communications starting 1 June 2025. He will take over Susan’s communications responsibilities and lead the department, reporting to Jonathan Bamber, LFC’s Chief Legal Officer, who will transition into the role of Chief Legal & External Affairs Officer and will also become a Trustee of the LFC Foundation. Meanwhile, LFC Women will continue to be led by its Board, ensuring the right football expertise is in place to further develop and support the team’s progress.
