Bootle Library celebrates huge 12 months of exciting transformations

Bootle Library has undergone some exciting transformations over the last 12 months.

It now has a brand-new children’s library indoor activity space. Funded through the Arts Council England’s Library Improvement Fund, the refurbishment has also resulted in improvements for the outdoor garden areas.

The new children’s library has been designed by artist Emily Speed in collaboration with Matt from design workshop Plaey. The imaginative space features bespoke furniture. And there is an equipment trolley for sustainable materials used in popular sessions like Squish and other young family activities.  A splash of creativity, bunting designed by theatre set-designer Sascha Gilmour, brings warmth and colour to the area and a welcoming environment for all ages.

The indoor activity space has been created for community events and creative programmes, and the outdoor garden areas have been made more accessible. New awnings mean the garden patio usable on rainy days.

To mark this milestone, the library hosted a re-launch celebration on Thursday, 30th October. The event featured live music by Dan Astles and creative play led by artist and maker Abi Lake, who runs children’s activities for The Colour of Pomegranates programme.

While families enjoyed the new children’s library, adults gathered in the refurbished events space to experience the library’s renewed sense of community.

Cllr Dowd, Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnership Engagement, said:

“This refurbishment is a fantastic example of how investment can transform local spaces into hubs for learning, creativity and connection. Bootle Library is now better equipped than ever to serve our community and inspire future generations.”
