Christmas Story Trail returns to Calderstones Park with magical new tale
3 minutes ago
Families heading to Calderstones Park this weekend can step into a brand new festive adventure as The Reader’s Christmas Story Trail returns for its sixth year, this time inspired by mr santa by award-winning author and illustrator Jarvis.
The popular trail, created by the team behind The Storybarn, brings the pages of Jarvis’ 2024 picture book to life, following the story of a curious little girl who gets the chance to ask santa all the questions she’s always wanted to.
The trail has been extended this year and will run every weekend from 29 and 30 November right through to 31 December.

Jarvis, known for much-loved titles including the boy with flowers in his hair, follow me flo! and alan’s big scary teeth, will also visit Calderstones Park for a special meet-the-author event. He’ll give a live reading of mr santa and lead a draw-a-long session in the Mansion House on sunday 7 december at 10am.
Running every saturday and sunday from 10am to 2.30pm, the self-led trail starts at The Reader Bookshop and takes around an hour to complete. Families will follow an interactive map with 12 clues hidden around the park, all inspired by the book. Each child will receive a map, pencil and their own copy of mr santa to take home.

There’s even a mini version of the trail every friday, designed especially for toddlers and younger children aged one to four.
Tickets cost £15 for one adult and one child in advance, or £17 on the day, with small additional charges for extra adults and children.
All proceeds support The Reader’s Shared Reading work across Liverpool and beyond, helping people connect through stories all year round.
Hot chocolate and room hire are also available for festive group visits.
