One thousand new homes at former school announced as part of Sefton 2030 initiative

The Sovini Group has partnered with Sefton Council to announce the first major development in its ambitious Sefton 2030 initiative. 

Transforming the former site of Bootle High School on Browns Lane, Netherton, this scheme is  set to breathe new life into a disused brownfield site, delivering sustainable and affordable  homes to the local community. 

The flagship Browns Lane development marks the first step in the wider Sefton 2030 vision, a  collaboration that will deliver over 1,000 new affordable homes across the borough. Affordable  housing includes both social housing and low-cost home ownership tenures like Shared  Ownership and Rent to Buy. Phase one alone is set to successfully bring 400 high-quality  properties to Sefton. 

By uniquely utilising brownfield land, Sefton 2030 not only reinvigorates the borough but directly  tackles the growing need for affordable housing. 

The Browns Lane development will play a vital role in helping reduce reliance on temporary  accommodation and transitioning local families into secure, high-quality homes. By focusing on  long-term stability, the partnership is dedicated to establishing sustainable tenancies that  empower residents to put down roots, feel secure, and thrive.  

The redevelopment of the former Bootle High School has already drawn high-profile praise from  regional leaders who recognise its transformative potential.

Sefton Council leader Cllr Marion Atkinson said: 

“It’s great to see that Sefton 2030 will provide much needed new homes for local people to rent  and buy, getting underway here at Browns Lane. People will see these eye-catching hoardings  going up at sites across Sefton as the Council and Sovini forge ahead with the partnership. 

“The partnership will also provide jobs and training opportunities for local people and the  money we raise from the land sales will also goes towards funding services we provide across the Borough, so it provides benefits for everyone.” 

The development has also been championed by Cllr Carla Thomas of St Oswald Ward in Sefton.

Cllr Thomas shared her support, commenting:  

“It’s absolutely fantastic to see the Sefton 2030 partnership coming together to deliver  something so ambitious in my local area. This is a wonderful opportunity for people who are  looking to get a foot on the property ladder in a thriving area.” 

Ultimately, Sefton 2030 is set to deliver a stronger, more resilient Sefton, benefiting generations  to come.
