The Bronte Youth and Community Centre officially reopened on 23 May with a vibrant community event bringing together local families, young people, partners, and supporters.

The Bronte’s story began in the early 1960s, in the shadow of Liverpool’s iconic Bullring. Originally founded as a boys’ boxing club, it quickly grew into something much bigger – a lively, inclusive space for the whole community. With early support from the Moores’ family, whose belief and investment helped build the original centre and fund its first activities, The Bronte became a cornerstone of opportunity, creativity, and belonging for generations of Liverpool residents.

More than 60 years later, that legacy continues – now with a brandnew future.

The Bronte’s transformation has been made possible through almost £5 million Youth Investment Fund (YIF).

The investment has delivered a modern, sustainable overhaul of the building, alongside organisational development and capacity building. The result is a future proof centre designed to grow with the needs of Liverpool’s young people and wider community.

Saturday’s grand reopening showcased the new building in style, with activities running throughout the day. Highlights included:

  • A charity football tournament on the centre’s stateoftheart MUGA, featuring special guest and Bronte patron Jamie Carragher.
  • LFC Foundation sessions, giving children the chance to take part in fun, active challenges on the pitch.
  • Youthdesigned merchandise, created and sold by the young people themselves.
  • Live music from local bands, bringing energy and atmosphere to the celebration.
  • A special ribboncutting ceremony, featuring a performance of his ‘Scouse Slang’ poem by Joseph Roberts, The Liverpool Poet, and an appearance from Liverpool’s newly elected Lord Mayor, William Shortall.

The event brought together past, present, and future – honouring The Bronte’s roots while celebrating the young people who continue to shape its story.

Laura Cain , Centre Manager, said:

“This reopening marks far more than a new building – it marks a new era for The Bronte. Our young people deserve spaces that inspire them, support them, and reflect their potential, and that’s exactly what this redevelopment has achieved. We’re incredibly proud of what has been created here and deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way. The Bronte has always been about community and seeing so many people come together today shows just how strong that community truly is.”
