Heswall, here’s why we love you so much

The jewel of West Wirral and officially one of the top places to live in the UK, Heswall has got a lot to offer.

From tea room treats and fine dining destinations to its beautiful coastline and bustling high-street, we discover what makes Heswall so darn perfect!

Café Culture

You never need to be short of a cup of tea or a freshly baked scone in Heswall; in fact we think its Wirral’s very own café capital! From the gorgeous Isabelle’s on Telegraph Road to wonderful Willow’s tucked away on Milner Road, there is a myriad of cosy spots to enjoy a brew and an artistically stuffed panini of course!

Wonderful Walks

From the magnificent Wirral Way with its pretty ‘Dungeons’ gorge walk, to Barnston Dales and nearby Thor’s Rock there are no shortage of wonderful walks that start or end in the village. Take in the fabulous views and round off your ramble at one of the many fine eateries.

Independent Shopping

Whether you are looking for a gorgeous gift, unique piece of art or just fancy a mooch, Heswall has stayed true to its village roots with plenty of interesting independent shops on offer. Yes, there are a few high-street names but ‘shop local’ is definitely the name of the game here.

Perfect Pubs

You’ll find a great selection of boozers in and around Heswall. From superb views at the Dee View Inn, to gorgeous gastro fayre at the iconic Devon Doorway, there are plenty of places to enjoy a tipple or two. Our favourite is the Jug and Bottle, just behind the library close to the town centre. As well as boasting panoramic views of the Dee Estuary from its wrap around terrace, it serves up top quality grub and with 6 beautifully appointed suites you can even enjoy a ‘mini-staycation’ and take in everything the area has to offer.

Coast and Countryside

Although there is no actual beach in Heswall (the nearest stretch is just down the road in Thurstaton) it does have a wonderful, wild shoreline with interesting wildlife and of course, those stunning views. Venture inland and you will find wide sweeps of beautiful countryside, dotted with tearooms and points of interest – a great way to spend an afternoon.

Property Hot-Spot

Heswall has long since attracted a celebrity crowd, with footballers and business magnates opting to make the village their home. From millionaire moments to more humble abodes, the property stock is as varied and quirky as the village itself and with some of the best schools in the region it’s easy to understand why it’s one of the most expensive places to live in the North West.

Charity Shop Chic

Like many high-streets, Heswall plays host to a number of charity shops. If you love a bargain there is every chance you will stumble upon a decent designer piece courtesy of some of the areas well-heeled donators. We are not promising Jimmy Chu’s but they are definitely worth a nosey when you are next in town.

Dining Destination

Heswall really comes to life at night. There is a fabulous selection of restaurants with everything from high end Indian (Barton Rouge) to bistro chic (Gusto and Silk Road) and just about everything in between. If edgy fine dining is your thing do not miss Burnt Truffle. Gary Usher’s (he of Wreckfish & Sticky Walnut fame) only Wirral eatery its housed in an old sandstone house with a stunning little terrace to match its stunning little menu!

On Par

Billed as the ‘golf peninsula’, Heswall is home to some of the Wirral’s top golf courses. For stunning estuary views and some pretty challenging golf, Heswall and Caldy Golf Clubs are up there with some of the finest links courses in the country.

Village People

Heswall is surrounded by a lovely network of villages which all have something to offer. Beautiful Barnston is home to the famous Fox and Hounds pub – a great country pub with superb food and a gorgeous sunny courtyard, whilst Brimstage boasts its very own craft centre along with a much-loved Maize Maze during the summer months.
