A new Wirral comedy night is launching this Spring

A new Wirral comedy night will take some topping with UK circuit acts and delicious pizza all part of a series of hilarious new shows coming to Thornton Hough.

The Slice of Comedy shows will be held on at least four Fridays in 2024 at Thornton Hough Village Club starting with a Smug Roberts (picture attached) headlined night of tasty entertainment on Good Friday, March 29.

As well as enjoying an MC and three great acts from the UK comedy scene punters will also be able to enjoy freshly made pizza from independent Wirral company Dough Bros.

The comedy night is the brainchild of Dean Boodaghians-Nolan (pictured on the Thornton Hough Village Club stage), an actor who lives in the village as part of his passion to ensure the community he loves has a wide-range of entertainment options in a venue that is already renowned for attracting brilliant performers for its live music nights.

Dean, whose acting CV includes House of the Dragon, The Great and next year Snow White, said:

“I love Thornton Hough Village Club and I just feel that it’s a venue that will lend itself brilliantly to comedy and we all need a laugh more than ever.

“There are some fabulous acts booked in for all four shows and as an extra treat I am delighted to enlist the services of Dough Bros who will supplying their delicious pizzas on the night. We will also be serving a range of drinks including Brimstage ales.”

Tickets are already on sale for the March night.

Headliner Smug Roberts has been dubbed by his peers as ‘the Godfather of Comedy’ and his CV ranges from Coronation Street to Phoenix Nights and Mrs Brown’s Boys.

Support from the evening includes opening act is Tony Burgess, who you may recognise from his role in the cult BBC3 comedy Ideal where he played DJ Troy.

As well as performing stand-up all over the UK for over 25 years – has written sitcoms for the BBC, plays for The Royal Exchange Theatre and written for many big-name comedians such as Steve Coogan, John Bishop, and Johnny Vegas.

And before Smug brings the show to a close, the audience will be treated to a set from Sarah Louise Keegan who has performed across the UK including alongside Jo Brand, Adam Hills and Peter Kay.

She loves a good sing along, so be ready to get involved – rhythm and harmony welcome.

The MC for the nights is quick-fire gag merchant Ben Turner – a World One Liner Championship and Comedy Cellar Yorkshire New Act of the Year finalist who has racked up 3m views on Facebook Reels and was included in the Daily Telegraph and The Poke’s funniest jokes of lockdown.
