Celebrate Global Scouse Day 2018 at these top 11 Liverpool restaurants

Grab a bowl and prepare to argue the toss about who makes the best Scouse in Liverpool.

It’s Global Scouse Day 2018 (Wednesday 28th February) couldn’t have come at a better time as we’re all complaining about the cold and trudging through the snow. There really isn’t a better way to get warmed through than with a warm bowl of Scouse, some crusty bread and a generous helping of beetroot…..or is it red cabbage? This age old argument, alongside whether original Scouse was made with beef, lamb, vegetables or if you’re weird like our Jay, with a dollop of ketchup, whatever goes into the pan, we’re huge fans of the outcome.

Watch above as we set out to try as many different variations of Scouse as possible on Global Scouse Day 2017, in one day and we discovered some absolute belters including Scouse Pizza, Scouse Tacos and we even had a go at blind Scouse too! This Global Scouse Day treat yourself to a big old bowl of Scouse and raise a toast to the best dish to come out of Liverpool…EVER!

Celebrate Global Scouse Day 2018 at these top 11 Liverpool restaurants….

1 – Skaus at The Baltic Market

The Baltic Market, situated in the Old Cains Brewery, has a number of pop-up stalls providing punters with everything from pizzas to halloumi fries; and now, the team at Skaus, who offer Nordic-inspired dishes, has come up with their take on the famous meal – traditional (or blind scouse) served in a crusty bread bowl. Tasty! Head down from Thursday through to Sunday for an authentic street food experience. Menus and more here.

2 – Savina Mexican Restaurant, Queen Square

Queen Square newbie, Savina Mexican has a triple whammy Global Scouse Day 2018 offering and it looks divine. Fancy tucking into something a bit different? Why not try Scouse dishes, Scouse burrito, Scouse taco and Scouse chilli. Check out the brand new menu here.

3 – The Egg Café, Newington

Located in the heart of Liverpool just off Bold Street, The Egg Café is Liverpool’s premier vegetarian/vegan restaurant and also doubles up as an art gallery and meeting place. Every Monday evening, The Egg Café offers their Monday special of blind scouse, and they also sell a pretty decent blind scouse pie too. Menus and more info.

4 – Ship and Mitre, Dale Street

Dale Street’s relaxed venue, The Ship and Mitre, offer their famous Scouse, which was once enjoyed by those cheeky north-east foodies, The Hairy Bikers, along with a toasted barm and a side of beetroot. And if the very reasonable price tag doesn’t suit your fancy, pop down on Wednesdays from 5pm, when the pub offers ‘Scouse on the House’. Yep, that’s right, a free bowl of scouse from 5pm every Wednesday! More info here.

5 – Maggie Mays, Bold Street

Famous for serving up Scouse like ‘yer Nan makes, Maggie Mays on Bold Street is THE stalwart of old-school scouse makers and is probably the essential place to go for a traditional bowl of scouse. Want to enjoy it in the comfort of your own home? Maggie Mays also sells Scouse by the Pouch in the restaurant and in some local Tesco stores you can also pick up Scouse in a Tin. Perfect! Menus and more here.

6 – Fodder Canteen, Baltic Triangle

Proclaiming to sell ‘the best scouse in Liverpool’, Fodder Canteen, which sits on Norfolk Street in the Baltic Triangle, offers scouse done three ways – blind, with beef, or with lamb – with a special emphasis on Bottomless Scouse – that’s right, all you can eat! On Saturdays you can experience a Scouse Dinner but reservations must be made in advance and bookings are only taken for parties of six or more. Enjoy your favourite dish in comfortable, relaxed and friendly surroundings. Find out more here.

7 – Lunya, College Lane

Deviating from the more traditional to something a little quirky, this Catalan deli and tapas restaurant on the corner of College Lane, serves up the Liverpool classic with a Catalonian twist! Their signature dish, Catalan Scouse, blends the best of Liverpool with Catalunya. Made with chorizo and morcilla, it’s sure to give you a kick and leave you wanting more! Check out the full Lunya menu here.

8 – Clockworks, Wolstenholme Square

Global Scouse Day

Clockworks in Wolstenholme Square plates up a decent sized portion of brisket scouse with crusty bread and beetroot for just a fiver. Specialising in wholesome British classics, the guys at Clockworks stick to what they do best – comfort food and cocktails. So, if you’re out for the night, why not sample something indulgent alongside your scouse by checking out their extensive selection of signature cocktails, wines and beers too. Click here for more info.

9 – The Chancery, Paradise Street

Your Guide Liverpool

Sourcing their organic produce from the local area, The Chancery on Paradise Street, will whip up a magnificent dish of hearty scouse made with Ormskirk-bred flank steak, served on top of crusty sourdough. Posh scouse fit for a king? We think so! Click here to check out the full menu and book.

10 -Thomas Rigby’s, Dale Street

Another Dale Street eatery selling the famous Liverpudlian dish, Thomas Rigby’s, produces old-school scouse in cosy, traditional settings. Why not nip in at lunchtime and wash it down with a pint of Guinness or a craft ale, you won’t be disappointed.

11 – Crazy Pedro’s, Parr Street

Our favourite and most crazy Pizza Parlour/ Bar is of course in on the action this year. They already have the KFC pizza, The Mac Daddy and the Blueberry Hill, so why wouldn’t they be serving up a Scouse topped pizza too for Global Scouse Day. Tuck into a slice and polish it off with a frozen margarita and a boogie in the bar and your GSD 2018 is made!

So come on, what’s the right way to make Scouse? Drop us a line on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and we’ll publish the most popular recipe on our socials. Tuck in people!
