Dafna's Cheesecake Factory in Liverpool announces closure after 45 years

It’s a sad day for cheesecake lovers across the city.

Liverpool’s famous Dafna’s Cheesecake Factory on Smithdown Road has announced on its social media today, Thursday 11 Jan, that they will be closing their doors for good after 45 years.

Dafna’s specialised in producing quality cakes, all made to non-commercial recipes. Their cheesecake, produced in ten flavours, was one of their the most popular products.

They stocked a range of wheat-free cakes, vegan cakes and dairy free cakes. In addition to over fifty cakes and desserts, Dafna’s also sold quality confectionery and imported Belgian chocolates.

A post on their Instagram this evening read:

“The time has come to give you all an update on Dafna’s Cheesecake Factory. Unfortunately it is not the news you were hoping for, as many of you may have suspected by this point, Dafna’s will not be reopening.

“When we closed our doors back in September 2022 it was full of hope at getting the renovations done within 6 months! 15 months later after many delays and complications, plus numerous other factors coming into play generally and personally, it has been decided that now is the right time for the Dafna’s story to come to an end.

“We know that this will be hugely disappointing for everyone and we want to make it clear that this outcome has not been made lightly and comes with the blessing of the previous owner.”

The post also made reference to there being some “good news” speculating that a “familiar, Liverpool based, independent business” will be taking over at 240 Smithdown Road.

The post continued:

“Dafna’s Cheesecake Factory has had an incredible run for 45 years, in which we have loved serving you and we will very much miss the community that we created. Please do share here some of the lovely memories you have and how Dafna’s has been a part of your lives…

“A most heart felt thank you to each and every one of you that has ever bought a cake or cheesecake, supported us over the years, worked for us or with us.

“Nothing was ever taken for granted.”

It’s never easy to say goodbye to a business in the city, but Dafna’s was an absolute institution not only of Smithdown Road, but of the city as a whole. They will be deeply missed.
