“I was staring death in the face. Clatterbridge saved my life.”

Watch above as we meet Adrian Taylor from Wirral whose life was saved by Clatterbridge Cancer Centre after he received a cancer vaccine and find out below how you can support the hospital with there Fairy Appeal.

A year ago, Adrian Taylor from Wirral was told he had terminal cancer. Now, he is looking forward to Christmas with his family thanks to a cancer vaccine, developed right here in Liverpool by The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

The Guide met up with Adrian and his family recently, he told us “It was my second cancer diagnosis, and despite months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, it had spread to my lung and was growing rapidly.

It was devastating. I’d been given the all clear on my first diagnosis, but this time I was told that without treatment, there was a ‘100% chance I would die’ and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

It suddenly wasn’t about me anymore, it was about what my family were going to do without me.

At that point I was told there was a clinical trial at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre that I might be eligible for. It was immunotherapy, with a cancer vaccine. Led by Professor Christian Ottensmeier, it’s the first trial of its kind in the UK and it had been made possible with the support of donations to Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

This clinical trial was the last chance saloon from my point of view. I was staring death in the face, so I took that chance and I’m glad I did. It’s saving my life.”

This festive season, Adrian is saying thank you to those who donate to Clatterbridge Cancer Charity by backing their Fairy Appeal, which will see hundreds of Fairies across their centres, each representing someone special.

By making a donation to the Fairy Appeal, the Charity will add a Fairy to a Christmas tree. Created by Artist Emma Rodgers, you could even receive a limited edition decoration of your own, to keep.

Every pound donated will support people like Adrian and his family, funding life-saving research, innovations in care and the special touches that make The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre such a remarkable hospital.

Supporters can choose who they dedicate a Fairy too, whether it’s in celebration, in memory or to say thank you to a member of staff at Clatterbridge.

“Your support means the world to people like us, thank you.”
