Everton in the Community is proud to announce its part in ensuring the legacy of the late great Kevin Campbell lives on through the recently founded Kevin Campbell Foundation.
Fan favourite Super Kev, who made 164 appearances for the Toffees and was named the Club’s first black captain in 2001, also played for Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City, and Trabzonspor. In addition, he had spells on loan to Leyton Orient and Leicester City. Kevin was also capped four times by England U21, and was capped as part of the England B squad in 1991.
He was loved by fans across the country and his family are keen to build his legacy with the establishment of the Kevin Campbell Foundation which will see donations used to fund causes and initiatives that were close to Kevin’s heart.
Kevin was passionate about his humanitarian work and giving back to disadvantaged communities through charitable work underpinned by his love for football. He made a difference by accompanying charities on international aid missions to Iraq and Africa where he spent time giving out football kits, boots, clothing and medicines to those in need as well as meeting with those in need to understand their problems in an effort to try and find solutions.
The Kevin Campbell Foundation will work with Everton in the Community and the Arsenal Foundation, Kevin’s boyhood Club, to help support young people in Liverpool and North London to empower them to reach their full potential, providing them with opportunities to achieve their goals.
The Campbell family said:
We are delighted to be working with Everton in the Community. Kevin was passionate about Everton Football Club, and the Everton fans held a special place in his heart.”
Sue Gregory, Everton in the Community CEO said:
“Kevin was a larger-than-life character with a big heart and was held in such high regard by Evertonians and anyone who had the honour of spending time in his company. We are excited to work with his family as they develop the Kevin Campbell Foundation to leave a lasting legacy of a great man and help create brighter futures for the younger generation of Merseyside.”
