Ladies Day: Sod the Press…Own it Girls!

Ladies Day is here and at The Guide Liverpool, we’re flying the flag for OWNING IT! 

It’s no secret that the press has had a field day over the years, purposely taking unflattering photos of race goers and posting them online for all to openly take the piss out of. Today, Grand Opening Day has been no exception, and some of the photographs published in one certain rag have been utterly disgusting.

Why should this paper get away with showing our girls up every year, we heard today that last year one of the unflattering ‘drunken’ photos published was actually of a local girl who was mid slip. She was actually pregnant and had not had a drink not only all day, but for four whole months!

Eventually, after this negativity becoming more famous than the Grand National itself, the bosses at the racecourse realised that this kind of victimisation wasn’t on.

Aintree Managing Director, John Baker said ahead of the 2015 Grand National festival: “The racecourse will do everything it can to protect women from feeling intimidated and mocked by cruel national media images.

“Our event is full of character, it’s fun, and that’s generated by the personality of the Liverpool people.”

That last quote absolutely knocks the nail on the head, the guys and girls of Liverpool make Aintree. The Grand National wouldn’t be deemed the greatest horse race on earth if you lot didn’t buy the tickets and turn up to support it!

Nation-wide you won’t find a city so stuffed full with women dedicated to occasion dressing! Don’t care what anyone says, our girls go all out. And let us not forget many people who attend Aintree, whether it be annually or when they can, save for months to get there, they put everything into their outfit, and looking their best, it’s their day to feel special, and nobody has any right to belittle them. How dare a national “newspaper” tear them apart like they do year on year.

With that in mind, if you’re going to grace the pages of a national “newspaper” or website at this year’s meeting, then give them the real you, 100%.

If you look good, feel good and you’ve saved and scrimped for months or even borrowed to have an amazing day out on the prosecco with your friends, what right does anyone have to judge you?

Everyone knows our girls love a tan, a curly blow and good quality acrylics, so if the press wants to make you famous, go for it! We suggest maybe leaving the the flashing and public urination to the southerners at Cheltenham though. We are ladies after all. And in all of our years of attending Aintree, including this year we have NEVER seen any of that!

Also, a big high five to the Liverpool independent salon businesses who put their heart and soul into working 12 hour days during Grand National week, primping, plucking and hair spraying to make you girls feel a million dollars.

So whether you’re rocking a new season Coast midi dress or a George at Asda maxi, go and have a ball. Let’s make the Randox Health Grand National the biggest advert yet as to how fun, down to earth and dedicated our Liverpool girls are.
