Liverpool’s Ma Boyle’s celebrates 150th anniversary – a year late

Ma Boyle’s really is a true Liverpool institution. The venue is tucked away just off Water Street and nestled by the beautiful St Nick’s church gardens, the alehouse and eatery is a truly historic maritime location.

Incredibly it reached its 150th anniversary last year, which it will celebrate properly in 2021 – a year late, but who’s counting? – with lots of exciting plans revealed soon, as the independent hotspot prepares for Monday April 12th.

Across a century and half Ma Boyles has witnessed Liverpool evolve into a magnificent modern city, one which is now preparing to open its hospitality doors again. And with over £15,000 alone invested into a new outdoor dining area and semi-permanent seating, Ma Boyle’s is perfectly placed on the doorstep of The Strand’s ongoing development to be right at the heart of the city’s riverside al fresco summer.

Monday April 12th is a huge first step on the road map from for Liverpool’s food and drink sector. And as the Ma Boyle’s team gear up in their intimate Tower Gardens hideaway, they are also building toward May 17th when customers are allowed back inside.

Ma Boyle’s

The award-winning Ma Boyle’s captures the hearts of so many – from breakfast brunchers and liquid lunchers to its brilliant bistro food, a place where groups of friends meet, couples catch up and meetings are made. Sumptuous food is complimented by a wonderful range of drinks and irresistible cocktails. And there are just a few more weeks to wait until Ma Boyle’s famed Sunday roast service is resumed on Sunday 23rd May.

For Iain Hoskins, Ma Boyle’s owner, opening outdoors again is a hugely significant moment. He says:

“We have been building up to this date for a long time now and are applying the finishing touches for this new al fresco chapter. We can feel how ready the city is for us, for everywhere to open. Liverpool is built on hospitality at the site has been here for such a long time, there’s so much history steeped in these walls, it feels very special just to get the doors open again and have the tables and chairs out in the street. We really can’t wait to be welcoming everyone back. We are also in the unusual position of missing our 150th anniversary celebrations last year because of the pandemic, so will be making up for that in 2021 with some very special moments – a year late!”

Iain is also soon to launch Tempest on Tithebarn, with a heavy nod to New York’s meatpacking district eateries, focusing heavily on brunches, lunches, cocktails and craft beer. The site features a ground-floor bar and restaurant, a basement club and a stunning open-air roof top looking out across the city. More news is coming very soon on Tempest on Tithebarn.
