The Bus Yard is opening a new Wirral beach venue in time for summer

The Bus Yard is about to open a new beachside site in Wirral, bringing its mix of street food, drinks and live music in time for summer.
The venue, which has become a hugely popular attraction by Crosby Marine Lake since it opened there in 2021, is due to launch at Wallasey beach from May.
Run by partners Antony Smith, Darren Ryder and Andy Laird, the converted double decker trades seasonally through to mid-September.
Now in addition to Crosby – and pop-ups at events including Salt & Tar summer concerts, Jockey Club gigs at Haydock Park and Reminisce Festival – The Bus Yard will have a new permanent venue with gorgeous coast views.
It’s going to be opening near Wallasey golf course with exactly the same concept as Crosby, plus a bus which comes with some local history.

Andy explains:
“We’ll actually be using a bus that operated as a service bus in New Brighton for Stagecoach. We didn’t know at the time when we bought it a few years ago but I did some research and found out the connection.”
Since their first Crosby site became so successful, Andy says they’ve been on the look-out for another similar location to expand to.
“It was always our plan to get another permanent site. The beach works really well for our business, so we were looking at key locations where it could fit. We didn’t want somewhere that was too residential because it has to be that we’re not disrupting people, so we looked around for a few years and found this one.
“We went through a tender process, won the tender and now we’re at the point where we’re getting everything finalised and we should hopefully be open in May.”
The Bus Yard is known for its street food and, while Crosby is all about Greek and a new dessert and churros station added this year, Wallasey will have its own menu.

“Robert, who was head chef at Everton, has joined us and we’re going to be doing authentic Turkish food so we’ll have hot coals and meat on skewers as well as waffles for dessert,” says Andy.
“We’ll have live music every day weather permitting and we just want to create a really good family place to go, where everyone can have a day out – the kids can play on the beach and then people can enjoy the food, drinks and the views.
“We love dogs too so we’ve got a special doggie menu and we tend to get a lot of dog walkers especially early in the day.
“We’re a family venue so when the kids break up for summer we also have free family fun days where we hire characters and put on different events.”
It’s definitely going to be a very busy Bus Yard summer because Wallasey isn’t the only new location opening soon … Princes Dock, right by Wyld Sauna, will also be getting The Bus Yard experience this year with a promise of vintage ice creams, boozy summer cocktails, draught beers and live entertainment along with a big projector screen for live sports and movie nights.
