There’s a free family fitness day this weekend at the Palm House

The Palm House in Sefton Park is hosting a free family fitness day for local people wanting to get healthy and try out some new exercise routines in 2018.

With the thought of gym memberships and fees for expensive classes weighing on many minds, this free event, which takes place on Sunday 7th January 2018 from 12pm to 4pm, will help local residents get their heart racing and kick start their New Year resolutions without having to commit to an activity that they have never tried before.

Those who attend the event will be able to have a go at a range of activities including yoga, dancing, cycling, bowling, croquet, tennis, meditation and much more.

Prizes will also be available on the day to those who can push themselves that extra step, as well as free guidance and advice from the Fit For Me campaign team.

Fit For Me has been developed in partnership between Liverpool City Council and Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group and aims to encourage people across the city to become more active.

Along with their ‘smoothie bikes’ the Fit For Me team will be on hand providing advice and top tips on how to get moving this New Year and beyond. Just ten minutes of physical activity each day could make a huge difference to your health and wellbeing. For more information visit www.fitforme.info.

Roy Boardman, director of the Palm House, said:

“This family fitness day is a great chance to beat the January blues and start the year on a good footing. Being active doesn’t have to be hard work – as long as your heart is beating a little bit faster and you’re breathing a little bit harder, it all counts.

“The Palm House in Sefton Park is a great place to kick start a healthy lifestyle. There is plenty of space for a wide array of activities, and the fabulous wildlife and plants on display will provide you with plenty of inspiration as you try out one of the many classes taking part during the event.”

Half Term in Liverpool

Cllr Tim Beaumont, Liverpool City Council’s mayoral lead for wellbeing, who will be attending the event on Sunday said:

“Providing Liverpool residents with the opportunity to try something different and learn some new techniques to live a healthier lifestyle is incredibly important for the city and those who live here.

“I’d encourage anyone attending the event to speak to the Fit For Me team about the wide range of activities happening on their doorstep, and of course go for a spin on the smoothie bike – it’s a lot of fun!”
