These Royal Albert Dock restaurants are helping to feed hundreds and raise money for charity this Christmas

Liverpool has always shown compassion and spirit to help others, 2020 has been no different.

This Christmas, a number of the restaurants at Royal Albert Dock are continuing the goodwill with their own individual fundraising initiatives, to help feed hundreds of vulnerable people throughout the festive period and raise money for North West charities.

The team at Maray have been working with Open Kitchens, a national food solution that brings together restaurants and their communities to deliver free meals, during then pandemic they have delivered a total of 4,764 meals to people in need.

They have also now teamed up with Granby Childrenā€™s Centre to deliver 250 Christmas meals to vulnerable individuals in the Toxteth area with volunteers from South Liverpool Vineyard Church.

Family-run Catalonian restaurant and deli, Lunyalita, have been busy providing free meals for carers throughout lockdown across a number of charities. Within the past few weeks they have sent 300 meals for carers at Options for Supported Living, a local charity that supports people with learning difficulties, and 50 meals a month to MyTime, a local charity that supports carers who are looking after a loved one at home.

This week, the team are gearing up to send 50 more meals to PSS, Liverpool Personal Services Society, a social enterprise who support people in need and they are giving hampers to the Wirral Hospitality Charity.

Rosaā€™s Thai Cafe are supporting the hospitality industry by launching ā€˜Invisible Chipsā€™, an initiative which gives diners the option of adding a portion of invisible chips to their meal and therefore donating Ā£2.50 to Hospitality Action. This charity provides grants, hardship funds and mental health services for those in hospitality who have lost their jobs or are struggling due to the Covid-19 crisis.

This December, Gusto are supporting the NHS and showing their thanks to key frontline workers for their dedication this year, and always, with their Pledge1Cook1 campaign. They are aiming to deliver 10,000 free meals to local NHS superheroes during what is set to be an extremely busy festive period for the emergency services. People can donate online with Gustoā€™s gift card system or in the restaurant by ordering one of the hand-picked dishes that have an option to donate an additional 50p.

Family-run bakery, Rough Hand Made, have been busy feeding locals with their freshly-baked pastries and savoury goods, with any unsold items being donated at the end of the day to the L6 Community Centre, a nonprofit organisation in Everton who support families that are struggling financially.

Smugglers Cove continues to donate 25p from every childrenā€™s menu item bought to Alder Hey Childrenā€™s Charity, which helps raise vital funds to help make Alder Hey Childrenā€™s Hospital a world-class hospital for the 330,000 patients and families they care for every year.

Community spirit in the form of inspirational portraits at Tate Liverpoolā€™s new exhibition by NY- based artist, Aliza Nisenbaum has launched this week. The people from Merseyside sat for their portraits in August and highlights their moving stories of service and selflessness throughout the pandemic.

Sean Morrison, Estate Manager for Royal Albert Dock, comments:

ā€œThe generosity and community spirit never ceases to amaze me at the dock. This year has been so hard for a lot of the businesses here, both large and small. This selfless act of independent businesses and organisations helping others less fortunate shows true Christmas spirit.ā€
