Hidden in plain sight on Mount Pleasant sits Reid of Liverpool 📖

Beyond its collection of rare and second-hand books it has an incredible claim to history: it occupies Liverpool’s only surviving Georgian purpose-built retail premises, dating back to 1785.

Established in 1982 by Gerry and John Fitzpatrick, Reid of Liverpool has since become a cornerstone of the city’s literary scene. And is home to over 40,000 books!

The shop’s name, “Reid of Liverpool,” is a personal nod to the Fitzpatricks’ mother, whose maiden name was Reid.

So next time you’re wandering through the city, take a detour onto Mount Pleasant, you never know what stories you might uncover.

We bring you HAPPY news for your Tuesday. The Ken Dodd Happiness Centre is set for launch! 🤩

The new attraction will celebrate Liverpool’s incredible comedy heritage as well as one of its most beloved entertainers, Sir Ken Dodd.

Jay spoke with Iain Christie from Liverpool’s Royal Court who are teaming up with the Comedy Trust on the project to get the latest update as the countdown begins.

The project will create four floors dedicated to happiness, health and wellbeing with bar, café, studio and exhibition spaces all overlooking the magnificent St George’s Hall and gardens.

The Sir Ken Dodd Happiness Centre will have a permanent exhibition, archives, objects and interactive displays that will provide an opportunity for visitors to have a greater insight to one of the UK’s greatest-ever entertainers alongside exploring how and why Liverpool is globally recognised for its unique history and culture that thrives on comedy, humour and wit.

The Northern Music Awards are coming to Liverpool in March 🥳

Jay spoke with BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Chris Hawkins about what Liverpool can expect from the huge annual event, brought to us by Nordoff & Robbins.

The UK’s largest music therapy charity, Nordoff and Robbins, yesterday announced the unmissable performance packed line-up for the second Northern Music Awards sponsored by Ticketmaster and Live Nation, to be held in Liverpool on Thursday 27 March.

Ian Broudie, legendary singer, songwriter, producer and frontman of indie-pop royalty, Lightning Seeds, will be honoured with the prestigious Special Recognition Award sponsored by SJM Concerts at the Northern Music Awards, and the band will be taking to the stage for a special live performance. The stellar line-up will also include Stockport-bred indie-pop band, Blossoms, Liverpudlian indie-rockers The Zutons, Liverpool’s rising romantic rock star Luvcat and – at the forefront of Hull’s rap scene – Chiedu Oraka.

Taking place this year at the historic Liverpool Olympia, the Northern Music Awards sponsored by Ticketmaster and Live Nation honour the very best artists, festivals, venues and industry figures from across the North. Held for the first time in Manchester in April 2024, the Northern Music Awards are the only awards set up specifically to recognise and celebrate the breadth of musical talent across the North of England.

Hosted by BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Chris Hawkins, with specially commissioned awards designed by contemporary British artist Thomas Wolski, the Northern Music Awards take place in a different Northern city every year to ensure every corner of the region is celebrated. Money raised from the event will go towards increasing Nordoff and Robbins’ music therapy provision in the North of England.
