It’s one of Liverpool’s oldest pubs in one of the oldest roads, so The Denbigh Castle can serve up some fascinating facts when you go to the bar to order your round.

Add the perfect pint, sports TV, great quality and service, and one of the warmest welcomes you’ll come across in Merseyside, and you’ve just about got it summed up.

The Denbigh Castle is on one of those quirky streets in between Dale Street and Tithebarn Street that you could pass by without realising it’s there, but one thing’s for sure, you’d be missing an absolute belter.

“It’s a more traditional pub that attracts the maddest mix of people which is great,” says owner Fiona Hornsby. “We’ve got a lovely beer garden, and we have some great evenings with Spoken Word and Poetry nights, and an 80s night… and we always have a laugh.”

As well as character by the bucketload, The Denbigh Castle has German beers and craft and cask beers, along with an extensive spirit range and, even, a vegan wine list.

And while you’re enjoying your drink and the cracking company, you can keep up to date with what’s going on in the world of sport – and not just footie, you’ll find the cricket and the rugby on here too – or have a gander at the amazing memorabilia that lines the walls like pictures of Pele going into Goodison in ’66 and a race card signed by Rachael Blackmore when she became the first woman to win the National last year.

Fiona and husband Dominic refurbished and re-opened The Denbigh Castle in January 2020, restoring its original name and bringing it back to life.

“It’s a boss old pub, and sometimes we forget what we’ve got,” says Fiona. “So maybe it’s time to have a wander down and remind yourself.”
