WATCH & WIN: A trip for two to beautiful Belfast with Radisson Blu

Advertorial

Radisson Blu Belfast makes the perfect choice for people wanting to explore Northern Ireland’s historic capital

Not too many places can compete with Liverpool as an amazing city break destination, but Belfast takes some beating.

Like our great city, it’s got it all – fascinating history and architecture, an exciting music and cultural scene, fabulous shopping and loads of independent restaurants and bars.

Better still if you’re visiting from Liverpool, it takes less than an hour to get there from JLA – it’s actually the airport’s most popular destination.

And to make a weekend or a midweek stay really special, Belfast has some top-rated hotels which put you at the heart of all the action.

The Radisson Blu Hotel makes the perfect choice for couples, families or for groups of mates wanting to explore everything the city has to offer.

It’s got a lovely setting down by the River Lagan, on the old ‘The Gasworks’ site of Belfast’s gas-making industry since the 19th century – we know all about how beautiful being by the waterfront is – and it’s just a short walk away from those shops, restaurants and bars so you don’t even have to think about getting around, especially at the end of a big night out!

The hotel has a ‘Yes I Can’ philosophy when it comes to service, so it does everything possible to make sure your stay’s perfect, and Radisson Blu has ‘Good to Go’ status, so you know all the right hygiene processes are in place. It’s been SGS Certified for its cleanliness protocols too so you can just get on with enjoying your stay knowing you’ve got that extra reassurance.

Like Liverpool, the city has an interesting history to discover. It’s known as the home of the Titanic because the famous liner was built at the Harland & Wolff shipyard and a world-class visitor attraction – Titanic Belfast – now stands on the original site.

The striking landmark building, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, creates an authentic retelling of the story, featuring nine galleries with interactive features, special effects and full-scale reconstructions.

Crumlin Road Gaol gives visitors an incredible insight into the Troubles, with a self-guided experience tour as well as black cab and walking tours.

Or, if you prefer fantasy over fact, how about The Game of Thrones Studio Tour? Fans have the chance to go behind the scenes of the Seven Kingdoms and more on a location experience that reveals how all those spectacular scenes made it onto the screen.

Belfast is a city that has families well and truly covered, so if you’re taking the kids you should definitely factor in a visit to Belfast Zoo, which is home to more than 120 different species and is active in helping to protect endangered animals from extinction.

There’s also the award-winning W5 science and discovery centre where, among over 250 hands-on exhibits, you’ll find RoboThespian, W5’s resident life-sized interactive robot!

Of course, no weekend away would really be complete without a trip to the shops and a couple of memorable nights out and you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Victoria Square is the place to go to for a spending binge on all the major high street fashion and beauty names.

And when it comes to finding great food and drink you can’t go wrong, whether you fancy tapas, modern European, Asian, Italian, French or traditional Irish.

Radisson Blu’s Gasworks bar and restaurant combines the best of modern and traditional with an imaginative menu which focuses on locally-sourced ingredients. Must-try authentic dishes like Irish lamb stew or The Gasworks Piece – a filled soda acting as an updated version of the Gasworks workers lunch – sit alongside healthy superfood salads.

If you want a proper Irish night out – and you really shouldn’t leave Belfast without one – head to the cobbled streets of the Cathedral Quarter or the historic Linen Quarter with its red brick warehouses to find the city’s buzzing nightlife. Don’t miss The Dirty Onion, which has a massive beer garden and entertainment every night, and the legendary Fibber Magee’s, one of the top places for live Irish folk music.

Belfast was awarded the UNESCO city of music in 2021 so it’s got no shortage of talent or venues to see it.

Once you’ve crammed all that in, you’ll be needing a bit of a breather so enjoy the natural beauty of the Botanic Gardens, which is handily right near Radisson Blu, or take a walk or cycle along the tow path which runs outside the hotel – you can even rent a bike right by the entrance!

For so many reasons, Belfast is a must-do for your city break list – the only real decision is where to start…
