You need to see these 10 acts at Liverpool Loves this weekend

Liverpool Loves was a huge hit on the docklands last year. Of course we knew that the weekend would be resounding success but the festivities surpassed the high standards already set by previous years. 2017 sees the festival move to Derby Square and Chavasse Park, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the level of talent on offer across the weekend.

Saturday’s line-up will be curated by The Guide Liverpool and SoulFest, and will run from 11am to 9pm.

Sunday’s programme runs from 11am to 7pm, hosted by The Rider Podcast with John Gibbons from The Anfield Wrap – with a performance from Liverpool legend Edgar Jones

So tonnes to choose from and we have chosen ten artists we think you need to see during another music filled weekend in our city.

The Guide Liverpool

Halem are a no brainer for you to catch at Liverpool Loves this year especially as it is only a couple of weeks after them playing the main stage at LIMF in front of god knows how many festival goers. LIMF is fast becoming one of the big hitters in the UK festival scene, so if they are good enough for that stage, they’re good enough for any. Don’t miss out on the chance to see them locally this weekend before tickets become rarer than gold dust.

Robert Vincent

Our headliner for the Saturday evening is the incredibly talented Robert Vincent, a man whom we are delighted to have snagged for our Saturday night main stage line up. Having won numerous awards and signing deal after deal, Vincent has been taking his Lo-Fi, Alt Folk sound across the globe as he puts out his first US release this year. And, after the UK radio success of previous releases, why wouldn’t he? So, before he makes Nashville or New Orleans his new home, make sure you catch him where it all started.

Sub Blue

Sub Blue

We here at The Guide Liverpool are proud to introduce one of Liverpool’s most promising urban talents right now, Sub Blue, a Contemporary R&B songwriter who has been tearing up the UK touring scene as well as writing his debut album as far afield as L.A. We’re lucky to welcome him and his band to the main stage on the Saturday evening as part of our takeover. After a stream of releases and UK festival appearances, Sub Blue is gaining recognition throughout the industry. He plays the Guide Liverpool stage on Saturday.

PIXEY seems to be making list after list of ours recently; we simply cannot get enough of her. We had her down as one of the best Pop acts of LIMF 2017, however, she rather unfortunately did not make her set at the Sefton fiesta. But, fear not, as this is your chance to give your summer that extra bit of sun, that extra bit of colour, that extra bit of fun. There won’t be a still person in sight if you’re around the main stage (Guide Liverpool) on the Saturday evening. (Picture Keith Ainsworth)

Delphina Kings

Representing the further North-West, Delphina Kings bring their own, high-octane brand of Alt Rock to Liverpool Loves, showing us that there is a little of everything on the bill. Delphina Kings are a relatively new addition to the local scene, but one that is as welcome as the band are hard-working, having a made a large impression very quickly. See them on Saturday in Derby Square.

Natalie McCool

Miss McCool is a stranger to few in the city so, it will be no surprise that her name is one of the biggest on the poster. With her unique take on guitar playing she has been up and down the country and across Europe lulling crowds into melancholic trances throughout her set. Coupled with the likes of Halem and PIXEY, Natalie McCool is doing great things for female artists from Liverpool entering the industry. Natalie Plays Liverpool Loves on The Rider Stage this Sunday.

Boston Shakers

These guys are another in the way of Delphina Kings, making Liverpool Loves a much heavier affair. Their latest release, All Out, has been championed by BBC Introducing’s Dave Monks and sees the band release their first official music video. As well as this, they have sold out their hometown headline show online and look to do the same for physical sales too. Whether this is your cup of tea or otherwise, you’re not going to want to miss out on one of the city’s brightest, all be it heaviest, upcoming stars. John Gibbons from The Anfield Wrap has drafted the lads in to play his Rider Stage on Sunday.

Ovvls are an experimental duo residing in the outskirts of Liverpool. They produce cinematic, and often dark, soundscapes paired with haunting vocals. We get the feeling that the duo are more suited to a dark club, but after loving what we have heard, we’re just excited to catch them live in any capacity. We’re looking forward to how their unique sound works as part of the festival; we have the feeling that they are more than going to rise to occasion. See them Sunday at Liverpool Loves.

This four-piece Indie outfit are another band on the Liverpool Loves bill that is doing incredible things further afield. Taking to The Rider Stage on the Sunday, they are the perfect warm-up act for Edgar Jones, bringing a retro Brit-Pop vibe to the inner city festival. Having supported the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, we know that you’re in for a show that is as professional as it is infectious. Wear sturdy shoes because you’re foot will be (at least) tapping for the duration. The play the Main Guide Liverpool Stage on Saturday.

Edgar Jones

The local legend that is Edgar Jones takes the Sunday headline slot, bringing a close to The Rider Stage and the festivities. Edgar Jones is a true working musician, heading around the world to play shows whilst still retaining his roots at somewhere such as Eric’s Bar on Mathew Street. With a string of albums and friends/colleagues such as Jonny Marr, Edgar Jones is Brit-Pop/Blues must see!

The weekend is rammed full of talent, some handpicked by us, some by local innovators such as SoulFest, with one thing for certain, there will be something for every member of the family. Tell us about who you are excited to catch at Liverpool Loves 2017, get in touch on Twitter @TheGuideLpool
