A Sunday well spent brings a week of content they say, and you’re in for a bumper week of celebrations as Chinese New Year kicks off this weekend!

This week, Your Guide Liverpool brings details of Bear Hunts, Hip Hop Brunches and WWE clashes, peppered with cocktails, juices and some seriously tasty BBQ! Here’s Your Guide Liverpool for the week ahead, 22-29th January.

Monday 23rd January

The Guide Liverpool October Half Term

Last Friday the World Museum held a free family friendly stargazing event and absolutely tonnes of people came out to look at the night sky and get involved in planetarium activities. Did you know you can visit the 5th floor at the museum 7 days a week to join Astronaut George for an out of this world show about aliens, stars and the sun. The Liverpool Girl Geek Boot Camp is back for 2017 and applications are now open for the February programme which is sponsored by PlayStation. If you’re aged 11-14 and is interested in coding, virtual reality, learning about role models and careers in tech, this 6 week course is perfect for you. We love a bit of speed dating, and Your Guide Liverpool never turns down a romantic story! Alma da De Cuba is hosting Ditch or Date, Speed Dating this Tuesday night, from 8-10pm. The flirty fun begins with registration from 7:30pm as the girls take their seats and the guys move around every 4 minutes. Could you find your happily ever after in the stylish surroundings of Alma? David O’Doherty hits the Epstein Theatre on Tuesday night with his brand new show ‘Big Time’ which in his own words comprises of ‘talking and songs played on a crappy keyboard since 1986’! David’s comedy has been nominated for best show awards at the Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Awards and is a regular on Channel 4’s 8 out of 10 cats. Why not start the Chinese New Year celebrations a bit earlier and check out a special screening of Liverpool film, Peggy Su at Edge Hill University. Introduced by the film’s Exec producer, Edge Hill University Professor, Roger Shannon, this romantic comedy is set in Liverpool’s Chinese community and depicts the generational and cultural conflicts of 19-year-old Peggy. Chinese New Year Liverpool 2017

Chinese New Year kicks off three days of celebrations this Friday with the story of Jingwei and the Ocean, lighting up the Chinese Arch, the Black-E and The Arch with a projection story that will capture your imagination, regardless of age. The twelve minute show will run on loop for an hour on Friday and Saturday evening from 7:30 and on Sunday it will play between 5-6pm among a whole load of other attractions.
