Duke Street Market announces family fun in August

Duke Street Market is hosting a selection of one-of-a-kind events to help you entertain the little ones this summer.

Throughout August there’ll be films, pottery, painting, and more, at the city food and drink venue, to make sure the holidays aren’t filled with frowning faces.

Lee Bannon-Smith, general manager of Duke Street Market, says: “We know how hard it is to keep the little ones happy for the whole of the summer holidays and that’s why we love hosting kids events every year, providing the perfect space to enjoy a fun activity and grab a bite and a drink.

“Duke Street Market always has been – and will be – a family friendly venue.”

As well as offering a selection of kids’ dishes from its six independent kitchens, it has a dedicated kids’ corner with books and toys for children of all ages.

And Lee says: “Every holiday we love hosting kids events in our Terrace. This summer we have a selection of film screenings and crafting events and we always aim to make them as accessible as possible, and affordable, that’s why tickets start at £6 which includes sweets and soft drinks for the little ones and hot drinks and pastries for the adults for every event!”

Tuesday, August 8 – 1.30pm

Matinee film screening of The Good Dinosaur, a Disney/Pixar animated adventure.

In a world in which dinosaurs and humans live side by side, it follows the funny and heart-warming story of a young Apatosaurus named Arlo (Raymond Ochoa). While travelling through a dangerous and mysterious landscape in order to return home after being washed downriver by a rainstorm, he meets an unlikely human friend named Spot (Jack Bright) and learns the power of confronting his fears while discovering what he is truly capable of. 

Tuesday, August 22 – 1.30pm

Screening of Matilda, starring Mara Wilson and Danny DeVito. The original 1996 film is based on the Roald Dahl classic which tells the story of a young girl, Matilda, who’s ill-treated by her parents and older brother and retaliates by playing tricks on them. She also learns she has magical powers which she reveals to her teacher at her school, headed by the tyrannical Miss Trunchbull.

Wednesday, August 30 – Kids Paint Party in collaboration with The Paint Republic

There will be two kids’ paint parties, one at 1pm for 4-11 year olds and another at 2.30pm for 11-16 year olds.

All the materials are provided as kid are encouraged to unleash their creativity by an experienced artist, and they can take their finished canvas home.

Thursday, August 31 – 1.30pm – Kids Pottery Painting Event 

Just sneeking into August, on the 31st Duke Street Market is hosting a pottery painting event in collaboration with Gone Potty, so you can let your child get messy with this fun and creative activity. Again, sweets and drinks, and pastries, are provided and the creative events start at £17 per child.
