Liverpool businessman with over 30 years in hospitality launches specialist property firm

After having a vast portfolio in the Liverpool Hospitality industry, David Wood has now launched Woods & Co, transitioning from owning venues to acting as a broker for them.

Launching just two years ago, Woods & Co is a company specialising in licensed property sales, negotiation and sourcing throughout Merseyside and the UK. 

The company has quite a unique advantage within the Liverpool hospitality scene, with it being able to provide expert guidance, advice and industry knowledge to people buying or selling venues. 

Some high-profile sales that have already been done by Woods & Co include Alma de Cuba in Seel Street, the Royal Institution, the Navy Bar in Stanley Street, and Bold Street favourite Maggie Mays. David is currently handling an impressive variety of properties for sale, such as Petit Café in Lark Lane, Liverpool; Bistro Pierre in Button Street; Bock Bier Café in Leece Street, and The Merton Pub in Bootle. 

Kicking his career off in hospitality at age 16, David started off working behind the bar in The Black Bull in Aintree. Since the, the 53-year-old has worked in nearly every element of hospitality, even adding a stint as a supplier for an industrial beer gas company to his wealth of experience.

The last venue he owned, which he bought and sold in 2019, was Brockbank & Mellor in Seel Street.

David was led to rethink his career after many long hours and an increase of interest in the property market. Having previously been involved in buying venues for other, he realised he had an interest for it and also a talent. 

David said:

“I know the bar business inside and out. I have owned around 25 pubs and six or seven city centre bars. Knowing the industry, I know the problems facing any operator and that gives me a greater degree of knowledge and understanding than your regular surveyor or agent coming in to buy or sell a property. It’s a specialised market.”
