Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger to join LFC Foundation legends match

Over 50,000 tickets have already been sold for LFC Foundation’s Legends charity match at Anfield in March as the latest five players to feature have been confirmed.

Liverpool Football Club have announced that Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger will join the LFC Foundation Legends team this year. They will play against Ajax Legends on Saturday March 23, with kick off at 3pm at Anfield.

This will be the eighth annual Legends game, and in that time the event has raised over £6.4m in vital funds that benefit people both in the Liverpool City Region and internationally.

This year the LFC Foundation will use a large proportion of money raised from the Legends game to support its education programmes.

With a host of players already announced, the LFC Legends attacking options have been bolstered by the addition of Dirk Kuyt and Nabil El Zhar, while Daniel Agger and Igor Bišćan will be options at the back for the LFC management team. 

Mark González will also be taking to the field once again, having scored against Celtic in the last Legends clash in 2023, his fourth goal in three Legends appearances. 

Those already signed up for the Reds include Fernando Torres, Jerzy Dudek, Ryan Babel and Martin Škrtel.

Tickets for the game, which is also in association with Forever Reds, the club’s official former players charity, are priced at £28 for adults, £8 for juniors and £18 for over-65s, and are available to purchase online here. Disabled supporters can visit the Accessibility Hub for full details.

While sport and improving physical health are at the heart of what the foundation does, its work covers so much more, with 60 per cent of LFC Foundation staff involved in non-sport specific programmes.

It continues to develop and support projects to tackle a range of social issues including poor educational outcomes, youth unemployment and young people becoming involved in gangs and crime.

According to Government statistics, since Covid the Liverpool City Region has seen absences from school nearly double. LFC Foundation continues to work with local schools, teachers and pupils to try and help reverse this trend. 

Its ‘Onside’ programme enables young people to engage in school through a bespoke curriculum developed and adapted to suit their needs delivered by LFC Foundation staff.

‘Onside’ is currently in 18 secondary schools and the charity has more than doubled the number of programmes in one year due to school demand. Money raised will help expand the programmes across more schools, train more staff and positively impact more pupils.
