However, it can be a little tough to enjoy the holiday for the Vegans amongst us as milk chocolate pours out of every corner of the season. However, fear not, Liverpool restaurants and eateries have plenty of tantalising, sweet treats that are suitable for those of us who avoid the white stuff…that’s dairy, by the way…
There’s something about Bold Street’s Our Kitchen that makes us think of Spring – the juices, the food and the venue itself are all there to make you feel fresh. The choice of delicacies for vegans and veggies alike are outstanding. I mean, just look at the Raw, Vegan, Vanilla and Berry Cream Cake above. That’s got your name all over it! The new menu, launched mid March, includes something for the meat eaters in the party too, but focuses mainly on veggie and vegan treats, whilst the juice and cake selection changes quite regularly, keeping us, and our taste buds, on our toes.
When we did our Vegan Guide to the city, Love Thy Neighbour was a newbie on the list that really impressed. Only a few months on and the hipster eatery is a staple on Bold Street – it’s not hard to see why. Although the menu is generally brilliant for Vegans across the board, for a special, Easter treat, we can’t recommend their effortlessly cool take on an Afternoon Tea enough. The feast includes sandwiches, prosecco, tea, coffee and of course, a selection of cakes, of freshly made by local bakery, Cake Hole. Booking must be made at least a few days in advance, but ideally as soon as possible. Link to the Facebook page above.
This Nordic inspired Vegan Kitchen isn’t actually open over the Bank Holiday Weekend, but we wanted to tell you about the amazing Vegan sweets on offer so that you can stuff your face in the lead up. Teaming up with Studio Raw, White Wolf are offering various vegan desserts such as Peanut Butter, Nutella Magnums. As well as their brand new, best selling CBD Chocolate Brownies and milkshakes. Ever on the cutting edge of the tastiest health trends, White Wolf will satisfy the belly, the taste buds and blow the mind.
If you’re reading this as a local vegan, then you know this one for sure. The Egg Cafe is the original, Liverpool vegan eatery and there is no sign of that changing, even with this recent influx of newbies. This Easter Sunday we cannot recommend the Egg Cafe Sunday Roast enough, topped off with homemade sweets such as Apple Crumble and Sticky Toffee Pudding all topped off with vegan custard, amongst many other cakes and sweet treats.
We return with another take on a classic afternoon tea, and this one is a close to a classic as you’ll find when it comes to the vegan variety. Cuthbert’s Bake house is always jostling for the top spot when it comes to the best Afternoon Teas in the city, and for this Easter, Bank Holiday Weekend, it’s up there again, mainly down to just how quaint the bake house itself is, and, of course because of the vegan offerings such as a Falafel Brioche Burger and classic cakes such as Victoria Sponge and Lemon Drizzle (all of course vegan). You’ll struggle to find cuter cafe this Easter weekend – or any weekend!
We know what you’re thinking – this isn’t a restaurant. However, this place has a in-house café and where could be better to spend Easter weekend than a CHOCOLATE SHOP?! Hotel Chocolat are chocolate specialists and will be the place to be to get the classiest and highest quality Easter Eggs this holiday season, for vegans and ‘normals’ alike. From Dark Chocolate Bunnies to Ginger “Hard Boiled Eggs”, these cocoa innovators have you covered…in chocolate. Not everything is super classy, though, with kids vegan versions on offer for the little ones. We highly recommend the Dark Chocolate Easter Egg sandwich to get your teeth into and a Dark Hot Chocolate.
We couldn’t mention desserts and not talk about this L1 favourite. Cosy Club specialises in the sweet stuff, as well as having menus specifically for vegan, and gluten-free, diets. Liverpool is one of three cities that is seeing a brand new, trail menu hit the tables, a menu that has been wetting our appetite for this Bank Holiday Weekend already. Brunch is served until 5pm so you can get your hungover fry up fix (vegan style) until late in the day, as well as main served all day that include a new Thai, Quinoa Burger and an Aubergine Tagine, all topped off, of course, with Chocolate and Coconut Torte with Raspberry Sauce. Book now to make sure that you get an extra cosy spot.
Green Days Cafe is a renovated house that has shot to the top of the Vegan and Vegetarian must eats in the last year. Everything is homemade, on site by the owner and his team, with the cakes being a standout. The Raw Vegan Gluten Free Cheesecake (what a mouthful) is a stand out, as well as the best selling Bakewell Tart and Biscoff Loaf. For Paddy’s Day the Cafe did a special Vegan Stout Cake, so we’re looking forward to seeing what will be on offer over the Bank Holiday Weekend. With everything being homemade, the selection changes daily.
There you have it; our favourite treats on offer around this Easter period. If you’ve found anything vegan that has got your taste buds excited for this indulgent time of year, let us know on email@example.com.
