Liverpool’s Royal Court confirms its social distancing plans after July 19

Following the government announcement that Social Distancing restrictions will be lifted from next Monday (19 July), Liverpool’s Royal Court has made a decision on how it will operate.

Alongside the option to sit in a socially distanced area, the theatre will continue with a number of the current Covid procedures throughout the building.

It will be taking the following steps:

  • Socially distanced seating will remain throughout the auditorium until 31 July.
  • From Tuesday 3 to Saturday 6 August an extra week of performances of Ellen & Rigby will be added during which the stalls and circle will go to full capacity while social distancing will be kept in the balcony.
  • The full runs of Bouncers (13 August to 11 September) and Homebaked The Musical (24 September to 23 October) will have dedicated areas with socially distanced seating.

Hand sanitizing stations remain, as will the air circulation system and antibacterial fogging of the auditorium every performance day.

The venue will be asking audiences to wear face coverings as they move around the building. Temperature checks and one-way systems will be kept in place in the socially distanced areas.

All staff members are taking daily Covid tests and audience members are encouraged to take a test before they visit, to help to stop the spread.

The venue’s Covid Refund Guarantee remains in place so if anybody needs to isolate or has any symptoms of Covid then they can simply get in touch with Box Office and move their tickets or receive a refund.

Kevin Fearon, Executive Producer at Liverpool’s Royal Court said:

“The relaxation of the rules around social distancing is great news for us as a theatre. We have been looking forward to this announcement for a long time.

That having been said, we are very aware that a lot of us will still feel a little anxious about coming into a busy room after such a long time avoiding this exact situation. We wanted to provide our audience with a choice and I think that this new plan gives people that.”
