Spring has sprung at Dobbies Liverpool
With spring well and truly here and the gardening season in full swing, research from the UK’s leading garden centre retailer, Dobbies, has found that a massive 69% of Liverpool residents are looking forward to doing more gardening this spring.
The research, from Independent Media News, looked into this year’s gardening trends, attitudes towards gardening, garden centres themselves and some of the misconceptions about the UK’s favourite pastime.
Dobbies’ Liverpool store has had a great start to the season and looking at customer trends from last year and this year to-date, General Manager, Robert Williams, predicts Pansies will be the most popular plant for Liverpool gardeners this spring.
Pansies are a popular choice for those planting in containers as they work well on their own or mixed with other spring bulbs such as Tulips, where the Tulips can grow up between the flowering Pansies.
Great for filling bare patches in pots or borders, Pansies are loved for their gorgeous flowering blooms that come in a variety of vibrant colours.
Pansies grow best in cool temperatures, making them ideal for Liverpool homes where the weather is often milder in spring, and require ample watering to ensure healthy growth and beautiful flowers.
Dobbies’ Horticultural Director, Marcus Eyles, encourages Liverpool residents to Spring it on this year by sharing his top tips on Pansies and why they are so popular in Liverpool:
“Pansies are a great addition to any garden, as they work equally as well in borders as they do in containers, making them great for outdoor spaces of all sizes. However you choose to plant Pansies, we recommend planting them in early spring to maximise their flowering potential and mulching well with peat-free compost to encourage strong growth and good moisture. These hardy blooms thrive in a bright spot so a south-facing garden or balcony will keep them very happy.”
