Eurovision Magic returns to the Mersey this May 🤩

Preparations are underway for Aquatopia to return to Liverpool’s Waterfront 🐙

On Saturday 11 May, Liverpool Loves Eurovision will see a series of free, family-friendly events ranging from Eurovision buskers and dancers popping up at city centre locations right through to the return of the hugely popular Euroclub – last year’s official Eurovision nightclub – which will take over Camp and Furnace once again.

Between 2-7pm the Pier Head will be transformed into a deep-sea party with Aquatopia – which will see the return of the blue and yellow submarine – one of the highlights of last year’s EuroFestival programme. Free family workshops where people can create their own fishy fancy dress accessories will start the day and then the party will kick off with a whole host of DJs, Ukrainian acts, sea puppets and dance performances. The event will come to life thanks to the creativity and imagination of the Invisible Wind Factory.

The Ivy is coming to Liverpool! 🥳

Plans have emerged to transform the former Bank of England building on Castle Street into a new luxurious dining destination.

The Ivy, renowned for its celebrity clientele in London, has its eyes set on Liverpool for its next destination.

The former Bank of England building is a Grade I listed architectural gem. The grandeur of the Victorian-era building, described as a “masterpiece of Victorian architecture,” adds an air of sophistication and heritage to this exciting new restaurant.

The bank was designed by Charles Robert Cockerell, and the building stands as a testament to Liverpool’s historic prominence as a hub of commerce and trade.

The exterior of the former Bank of England will undergo subtle yet stylish enhancement to show off The Ivy’s presence. Expect to see a fabric awning adorned with The Ivy’s name, with a brass back-lit sign and four planters.

New show ‘The Legend of Ned Ludd’ is on now at the Everyman Theatre and has 256 possible versions, so will have you guessing no matter how many times you watch it. 😮🎭

The show centres around how automation can change and control our everyday lives, especially the way we work. And that doesn’t stop at the story and the dialogue.

Writer Joe Ward Munrow’s play actually allows a machine to dictate what audiences see, giving it the power to choose the scenes which are included. That means no two performances are the same and actors, as well as theatregoers, are never quite sure what will come next.

Josh catches up with the cast to find out more about the production.

St. George’s Hall has launched a new and improved History Whisperer attraction 🤩

Visitors to St George’s Hall will be able to walk in the footsteps of a Victorian prison guard from Friday 26th April.

The iconic hall’s popular visitor experience The History Whisperer has been reimagined and will now also feature a new character - The Warder - as part of an immersive exhibition.

Using augmented reality technology, the extended History Whisperer, which was launched in 2021, will now take the public to little-seen parts of the hall. Wending their way past the prison cells, across a bridge and into subterranean areas, visitors will also see the Engine Room where they can view the inner workings of the original heating and ventilation system that made St George’s Hall the world’s first fully air-conditioned public building.

Supported by The Wolfson Foundation, The Warder’s story is being brought to life through a stunning creative collaboration. Captivating visuals have been conjured up by Gazooky Studios, Immersive Interactive’s creativity allows a dynamic exploration of history, with Music in Mind and CineTecture supplying soundscapes and visuals respectively.

For the first time, visitors will also be able to explore The History Whisperer at their own pace with no timed slots.

Larger groups can now visit the experience without having to pre-book.

The History Whisperer: The Warder will be open to the public from Friday 26 April, tickets are now available from the @stgeorgeshall_liverpool website.

Canning Dock transformation has received the green light! 🤩

Liverpool’s iconic waterfront is set to undergo a significant transformation with the latest milestone reached in the National Museums Liverpool’s Waterfront Transformation Project.

National Museums Liverpool’s Waterfront Transformation Project has now secured planning permission, which aims to revitalise the Canning Quaysides and Dry Docks into a space for education, contemplation and recreation.

At the heart of this £15 million redevelopment lies the restoration of the south dry dock, constructed in 1765, to make it accessible to the public for the first time.

Thanks to a £10 million contribution from the Government’s ‘Levelling Up’ fund, plans include the construction of a new stop wall, a staircase, and a lift, enabling visitors to explore this historic site.

Plans also feature a twin-lever footbridge from the Royal Albert Dock across to the Canning quayside. The wider public realm will be enhanced with level pathways, an open-air events space, and significant improvements to the interpretation of items around the site.

Construction work on the designs, which are being led by architects, Asif Khan Studio, and internationally renowned artist, Theaster Gates, are due to start in autumn 2024.
